Dream Big and achieve the success
I am very pleased to have this
opportunity to address you all on the special
edition and the final newsletter for the
leoistic year 2015/16. First of all,on behalf
of the Leo Club of University of Moratuwa,
I would like to thank each and every one
who helped us during last year even with a
single word. I take this opportunity to thank
all the past UoM Leos who were always
there when we needed help and all the
Lions of Lions Club of Dehiwala North, our
parent lions club, who advised us to become
stronger and stronger. Finally I would like

to thank every single Leo and Lion in Leo
District 306A2 for your invaluable support.
You all made us to become who we are
right now. You all inspired us to have these
achievements we are holding. Because of
you, we made our dream a reality. Thank
you again.
At last, but not least, I would like to
thank every UoM Leo who contributed
their sweat and efforts to make these
achievements, to make our dream a reality.
If not for you all we will not be proud like
this at the moment. Eventually it was your
hard work that paid off. I am very proud
and honored to be your president. Thank
you and hats off for you all.
Finally I would like to remind you
about something I mentioned in the very
first newsletter. Dream Big. Dreams are
the motivation,driving force of your entire
life. That will guide you to the success. I
think we have proven this. So, dont forget
to Dream Big.

We cannot do this alone; as a single person.
We should have enough courage, strength,
determination, confidence and a good
team. We had all of these. Thank you all

Leoistic year 2015/16 was a

remarkable year for UoM Leos as we could
reach the summit. In this past year, we
could reach the people in every corner of
the country and touch their hearts with
our love and kindness. We could develop

It is a great honor for me to deliver
message to all you, in the best newsletter
of leo multiple district 306, after being the
most outstanding leo club of Sri Lanka.
Our diversified volunteering services and
contingency plans are only reasons for
becoming the best leo club of Sri Lanka.
All these goals were achieved by
innovative leaders. Innovative leaders are
humbly guided by a more altruistic vision
of success. Our leos have used innovative
ideas to increase the impact of the projects.
Therefore, we were armed by innovative
leaders. They were the key factor for success

of UoM leo club. Followers are coping
projects from past leoistic year. But our leos
carried out new projects and upgraded past
projects to new level.We have conducted
more than 80 projects during leoistic year
2015/2016. All these innovative projects
were highly impacted us to be the best club
of sri Lanka.
We received a great support from
past leos and lions during leoistic year
2015/2016.your support was highly helpful
to bring our club up to the best level. We
highly appreciate your continuous support
to the club. At the yearend I have awarded
as the most outstanding club treasurer in
Sri Lanka because of my club members.
I am grateful for everyone who has given
their fullest support for me to achieve my
goal.
Finally I would like to wish upcoming
President Shehan Akmeemana and his team
for a successful year ahead. UoM Leos, be
the best leaders where ever you are. Not
just a leader but an innovative leader. Leos
grab this valuable opportunity to become
an innovative leader.

Milestones of a
Successful Year
Sawiyak Awasi Kala Beach Cleaning Campaign
We UoM LEOs launched a beach
cleaning campaign with the collaboration of
the Nature Team of UoM and Department
of Architecture on 19th of September 2015.
The coastal line from Lunawa to Angulana is
cleaned up while encouraging the community
around to protect the beach . It was a great
opportunity to young volunteers to mobilize
the habit of cleaning the shores and protecting
those throughout the life time.

We were turned back with tons of

harmful marine litters in our hands and leaving
the lovely beaches as it is belongs to nature.

Leo Club of University of Moratuwa

has conducted a program for the patients of
Maharagama hospital on 8th November 2015,
to give specially prepared treatment, beverage
made with medical grain, which helps to
rebuild the dead cells of the body. This was
a combined program with the Leo club of
Ingiriya United and Leo Club of Katuwawala.

Though they were at the doorstep of

their life, without hopes of lives, Leos were
able to give them a smile to their faces and it
was the gain of the day.

Gilan Hadata Thurunu Sawiyak Api Akurata Meli Nowemu

A child without education is like a bird
without wings. We identified the requirement
of education and conducted a seminar series
for students in different schools in different
areas in the country. It was continuously
carried out in each month. It was conducted
basically focusing the students who are facing
grade 5 scholarship examination, O/L and A/L
examinations.

We were able to give a helping hand for

those children making them confident for the
examination and it gave us a great pleasure at
the end of the each session as we were able to
bring a smile for those faces.

Victoria House at Rajagiriya is a home

for incurables. There are over 100 men and 80
women. Most of them cannot do their works
themselves. And they need someone to stop
by and ask how are you?. UoM Leos visited
them helped them for their daily activities and
also cleaned their surroundings. We spent a
whole day with them by making them happy.
And we distributed some sanitary items. It was
a heart touching experience. UoM Leos were
very happy at the end of a successful project.

Consortium Mahesh Abeywickrama Memorial

Inter School Debating Competition

Every year Leo Club of University of

Moratuwa organize the Mahesh Abewickrama
Memorial Interschool debating competition in
the university premises in memory of the past
president in leoistic year 2004/2005 Mahesh
Abewickrama, who left us at an unexpected
time.
For the consecutive 4th time Mahesh
Abeywickrama Memorial Inter School
Debating Competition 2016 was successfully
held on 26th of March 2016 at University
Premises with the participation of 12 leading
schools in western province. Filling the
audience with more and more thrill and
will D.S.Senanayaka College became the
champions of this year.

As leaders, LEOS show the way for future

leaders. UOM leos organized a leadership
and positive attitude development program
at sujatha vidyalaya , Matara. It was carried
out on 5th of July 2015. The program was for
girl guides in schools around Matara area. It
comprises team spirit building activities, fun
games and motivation lectures. Despite the
variability in perceptions of leadership, we all
have leaders who have made a difference in
our life and inspired us in one way or another.
Thats what everyone got at the end of the day.

Trekking through the
Memory Lane
Yet another glorious era of the legacy
of UoM Leos has come to an end. As we have
come to the tailpiece of this era it is gracious
to look back at the history of this tremendous
club or the path we, UoM Leos have trekked
up to this point of success.
Leo club of University of Moratuwa
started its journey in 2003 under the theme
We Serve. Leo Nadun Gunawardana, the
first club president gave his maximum effort to
start the club fruitfully. In years 2003/04 and
2004/05 the club continued its journey even
through disturbances.
Year 2005/06 is a remarkable milestone
in the history of UoM Leos, as the club got
the opportunity to win the award The most
outstanding club of Leo district 306A2 for the
first time. The great pillar of success behind this
achievement was Leo Tharanga Gunasekara,
the club president for this year who won the
The most outstanding club president title
in the same year. Once again this great figure
showed his Excellency and devotion towards
leoism by winning the title The Leo of the
year in the year 2006/07.
After that UoM Leos made it sure to
bring the title the most outstanding club of
Le district 306A2 home consecutively in
years 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09. And Leo
Isuru Senadheera became the Leo of the year
in 2008/09.
In year 2011/12 UoM Leos marked
another milestone in their journey winning
the title The most outstanding club of the
multiple 306 under the leadership of Leo
Naveen Lamahewa. Again in year 2012/13
the club became the most outstanding club of
the Leo district 306A2 under the presidency
of Leo Chathuranga Gunasekara who won the
most outstanding club president award in that
year. This year was a very proud year for the
club as Leo Isuru Senadheera had the honor
of becoming the first district president for Leo
district 306A2 from Leo club of University of
Moratuwa.
Once again UoM Leos proved their
gloriousness by winning the most outstanding
club of the multiple 306 in year 2013/14
under the leadership of Leo Ajith Ranaweera
and Leo Kasun Geeganage became the most
outstanding club secretary.
This leoistic year 2015/16 was a sparkling
year in the history of UoM Leos because we
were able to bring so many multiple awards
back home. We won the awards The Most
outstanding Leo club of the multiple 306,
The most outstanding club secretary, the
most outstanding club treasurer, The most
outstanding advisor for Leos and many more.
Success does not lie in results but in efforts.
Being the best is not important, doing the
best is all that matters.

Enjoy the Moment

Some memories in life may hard to keep in mind and hard to remind. The more we try
the more we lose in forgetting the hardships. We have heard about people who got through
hardships and won the life facing them bravely. But some may be out there worrying for losses
and living like a survivor from death remembering old gone anecdotes.

If anyone wants to live a life with relax and joyful mind the helping phrase will be Enjoy
the moment. Its rear to find a person who hasnt gone through a single scrape during his
lifetime. Its not a matter of wealth or fame. We all are born on earth to face happy and sad
moments.

Being happy today may not tell us that happiness will remain forever. Its uncertainty is
certain according to the law of nature. The more we think there is no change the more we get
aggrieved. It is not what we think we might have to face in future.

Together with the good and bad the journey of life flows gently as a river. Present is the
moment to live and we should try to make every minute of life enjoyable.

have to go out and get it. Leo club of University of
Moratuwa has achieved the success by being the Leo Dishantha Wijekoon - Editor
most outstanding Leo club of Sri Lanka. It is a great
privilege for me to express a spare of thoughts in
the special edition of the newsletter as a member
of such a club.
A year has gone by and it was a success
due to the fraternity of talented volunteers who
gathered around the club. We were able to serve
the community at our best. Happiness we earned Leo Shehani Attanayake - Editor
by serving others has made our lives fruitful. As the
editorial panel of the UoM leo club our ambition
was to share our experiences in a creative manner.
We hope it was successful as we were awarded as
the most outstanding bulletin editorial panel in Sri
Lanka.
However success is not final, it is the courage
