Advantages and disadvantages of mobile phones for highschool students

Each and every technology has its own advantages and disadvantages for students specially
mobile phones. A modern telephone is often called cellular phone or cellphone. In the current
world, mobile phones are really essential for everyones life. But, it doesnt mean that you cant
live a life without a mobile phone. John F. Mitchell abd Martin Cooper of Motorola demonstrated
the first handheld mobile phone in 1983. A student having a mobile phone can either help them
improve or spoil their life; it all depends on how they use it: Advantages- necessities during
emergencies, useful tool for gathering information, fast connection to clear your querries, fast
information dissemination. Built-in and downloaded applications to make your life easier.
Disadvantages- less interaction, more online games, unfiltered informations, not enough sleep
due to pro-long hours of usage, distraction during classes or seminar and sets social standards,
less quality time with family. There are some things that mobile phones can help us with. It is
clear that mobile phones are very useful in emergency situations, if students, have a mobile
phone, then it is easy to contact anyone at their needs. Great equipment in order to improve
knowledge. Things changed now, we do not get information only from our teachers/ parents, but
also from the internet. We get knowledge from parents, teachers, and books, but with the help
of the internet, we can learn much more. Students who get good grades in exams get extra
knowledge from the internet. In the early days, the library helped the students to gain extra
knowledge and now the whole library is in the students pocket as a mobile phone. You can
clear any doubt you have and get a great explanation with the help of mobile phones. Through
your Smartphone you can open Google, YouTube, and Wikipedia which are three informative
giants, helping students in many ways. Doubts cleared as soon as you got one. If you have
something to clarify to someone, you can just simply call or text them. In the 1950s or 1960s,
students wait until the next day to meet a teacher or a friend. But now students can right away
make a call to a friend or a teacher and clear their doubts as soon as possible. If you missed
one important lecture you can phone a friend and get to know about the whole lecture. Get to
know what happens around the world. Nowadays, even school students get to know whats
happening around the world. More searches come from mobile devices compared to PCs and
laptops. This simply indicates that students spend their more time on mobile phones rather than
PCs or Laptops for searching news and other useful material and get to know what happens
around the world. Mobile phones work as an adviser, guider, instructor, teacher, director, or
almost everything. Student having a mobile phone means that the student has everything. Early
morning it works as an alarm clock. Also, it works as a reminder if you put some notes on the
reminder. You dont need a calculator as long as you have a mobile phone. You can take a
snapshot or download lecture slides. Or you can even record all the lectures. Any doubt you can
Google it. You can manage your house hold accounts. You can use the mobile phones as your
personal diary. For any video explanation, you can use the YouTube. Sometimes when a
student abuses the use of mobile phones, it becomes harmful rather than helpful; playing
games most of the time. Student these days are more on playing mobile games than playing
with a friend. Student is playing games all the time then it is better to take the phone away from
them. Their studies and other useful activities are destroyed by the mobile phones. But if they
play games once in a while, then its totally fine. Involvement in unwanted things. Sometimes
not all we learn from the mobile phone is good for us. Through mobile phones, you can search
lots of bad stuff. Nowadays almost all the students are addicted to porn videos and some other
porn activity websites. This is why we can see lots of students with cigarettes and drugs. This is
one of the major flaws with the rise of technology. Sleepless nights and fatigue. Too much use
of mobile phone cause less hours for sleep. Some students choose the sleeping time for
chatting with friends. Chatting also makes them go to bed very late, then the next day they get
tired and find it hard to concentrate on their subjects. So, students must sleep as soon as they
finish their homework and dinner so that they would start the next day fresh and confident.
Disturb other students. One thing is that whenever your mobile phone is not on silent mode, it
causes a distraction, another thing is that student without mobile phone feels they're out on the
trend and envy for the ones who

have it. Such students get frustrated when they see another student having a mobile phone.
Reduced time with family. Students spend their time more on mobile phone doing stuffs and
forgets about spending time with their family. Spending time with the family is one of the most
important things for everyone and we can learn more good stuff when we freely talk with our
family. A family chain is very important and tries to make them understand that. A mobile phone
can be either helpful or harmful. The advantages and disadvantages of a mobile phone depend
on how the student views the mobile phone. A mobile phone can be less disadvantageous if
used wisely and can be less advantageous if abused.
