In my opinion, never run behind shortcuts or dierent methodologies to solve math
problems. Just start solving the way which strikes your head on the rst moment.
Never waste time in thinking for a better method, or a shorter method, at least during
the exam time. It actually kills your time in exam. Trust me, even the best teachers
take a long time (in hours) getting a highly optimized solution for long unknown
questions (have personally experienced in kota). The JEE is so designed that you
would be able to attempt all the questions even if you do it the normal way. It's just
the time you waste in getting the approach and time wasted due to calculation errors
which kills you.

Also, look for the given data and required data. Rewrite both of them next to the
question. In simpler words, rephrase the question with just mathematical statements
omitting the grammar and long stories. You would clearly see the way out to solve the
problem.

Lastly, Practice. Practice a lot. Make it varied, random. Ask your siblings/parents to
give you random questions from random books. It increases the speed. Practice
essentially gives you condence to solve the problem the longer way in shorter
time. Also, it reduces your chance to make calculation errors.

Substituting the options: Substitute each option and test for logical fallacies.
Quite often, there's only one option which gives a non-absurd result. Gotcha!

Special cases: Put the value of the variable as 0 or innity and test each
option for absurdity. In trigonometry problems, substitute the value of the
angles as 0, 30, 45, 60 or 90 and again check which option gives a non-absurd
result
These are the only hacks which come to my mind right now. I will add more as I recall
them from my own experiences. It has been two years since the JEE-AIEEE-CET-
BITSAT madness and it's a tad dicult to remember these cool techniques!
