INTRODUCTION:
The counseling practicum will provide trainees with work-related experience. Trainees will be
posted in a counseling work-related setting for 14 weeks (10 weeks at school setting and 4 weeks
at industru)to fulfill 560 hours accredited for counseling practicum programme. Learners will be
supervised and guided by field supervisors and academic supervisors approved by the faculty.
Trainees have to meet requirements: 150 sessions of individual counseling, 42 sessions of group
counseling, guidance activities, implement programmes, administration works and case
study.Supervision will also be conducted by the faculty academician to guide, monitor and
assess the trainees progress during the internship period.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon the completion of the course, trainees will be able to:
1. apply theories into practice as a counselor practitioner at work settings.
2. master attending skills.
3. manage guidance and counseling unit.
4. demonstrate good communication skills.
5. develop positive counsellors attitude and personality.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of the course, students are able to:
LO1 : demonstrate the mastery of basic attending skills;
LO2 : manage and administer the guidance and counseling unit;
LO3 : plan and implement guidance and counseling programmes;
LO4 : demonstrate and develop personality, attitudes and roles of a counselor in a real work
setting;
LO5 : practice interpersonal and communication skills used daily in work setting;
LO6 : demonstrate the sensitivity to the ethical application of counseling, both with respect to
working with clients and other responsibilities inherent within the internship period.

COURSE POLICY/ATTENDANCE POLICY

Students are required to abide by the universitys Academic Regulation pertaining to all matters
during their course of study. Learners are advised to take note that class attendance is very
important. Learners who do not meet the attendance requirement will be barred from sitting for
the final examination.
