**Os verbos dirigir e corrigir, quando conjugados na primeira pessoa do singular no presente, apre-
sentaro uma mudana na grafia de seus radicals. A consoante final -g em dirig- e em corrig- mudaro
para -j a fim de manter o som suave (z) (j como em j) diante da vogal o da primeira pessoa. De
outra forma, -g soaria (g) diante do o, como em goiaba.
When conjugated in the first-person singular, the verbs dirigir and corrigir change the spelling of their
stems. The final consonant g in dirig- and corrig- change to -j in order to maintain the soft sound (z)
(as s in pleasure) together with the vowel o of the first person. Otherwise, g would sound (g) (hard sound)
when placed before the o as in goat.
