I have never lost that excitement o f trying on new clothes, the bedroom looking
like a jum ble sale, remembering a pair of shoes in the back o f the wardrobe that
will pull a look together, finding a new top that will reinvent something Ive had
for years. I meet people who are so cool they could freeze your hand, whereas
I still get excited when I m lucky enough to be sent amazing pieces - like the
Prada bag which I have used virtually every day since it arrived, doubling as
everything from hand luggage to a pillow. But, if Im being honest, the buzz is no
different when 1 come across a great little find in the market or a vintage piece.
P ve come a long way, but this book is not my attempt to tell you what or what
not to do, its just to share some of what I have learned, from tips from the best
make-up artists and hairdressers, to the difficult (but not impossible) task of
cramming nappies and baby bottles into a little Fendi bag. The advice in this
handbag-sized edition has also been updated - we all know that the world of
fashion is forever changing.
As for the title, I m actually talking about high heels. OK, so its a bit tongue-in-
cheek - but thats what its all about. And as every woman knows, that extra
half an inch makes all the difference ...

weird growth inside your hoots around your ankles, which can happen with
hoot-cut jeans because there is much more excess fabric swishing about at

But if you dont have any skinny jeans, you can tuck the ends of
your straight-leg jeans into tight long socks. This can squeeze
your legs a hit, so maybe its the perfect outfit to wear on
long-haul (lights to ward off deep-vein thrombosis!
And you thought I was just here for fashion tips ...
As for how many pairs of jeans you should own, well, it obviously
depends on how often you wear them. As you can tell, I wear denim
almost every day, so I have quite a few pairs and I try to get them in as
many different styles as possible. It makes more sense to me to spend
that little hit more on something that my bottom will be relying on so

I/its o f people ill ink
that wearing a bra that
is the same colour as
their top will stop it
showing through, but
this just isnt true. The
mat erial o f the top will
be thinner than that o f
your bra, so two quite
noticeable triangles
will be staring everyone
in the fa ce every time
they look at you. You
see this so often with
white T-shirts in
particular. Instead,
wear a flesh-coloured
bra underneath
because what you
really should be trying
to match is your skin
colour. That will look
Jar more natural. The
exception to this rule is
i f you are obviously
letting your bra show

HALTERNECKS
WHILST I M NOT A FAN MYSELF, a
halterneck top is another alternative to wear
with your jeans on a night out and some are
very pretty. Look for sexy ones from
high-street stores like K aren Millen and
Whistles. Make sure you wear a b ra with
them (M arks & Spencer and La Senza do
good halterneck ones) as if you dont, and if
its a bit chilly that night, well, everyone will
be able to tell ju st by looking at your top.
After all, you dont w ant to look like you
could tune yourself into Radio 1!
WAISTCOATS
SPEAKING OF MENS CLOTHES,
waistcoats have always been a great way to
sex up a p air of jeans. I have bought a lot of
vintage mens waistcoats from second-hand
stores and had them taken in at the back to
fit. The high street has picked tip on them
in a big way, making sharp ones specifically
for women so you dont even need to bother
with altering them. Kate Moss created
one for her debut collection for Topshop
as it was such a staple piece in her
own w ardrobe.

I HATE FEELING COLD, like a lot of
women, but bundling up under loads of

I rely on polo necks and cashmere V-neck

from the high street, particularly Topshop,
whose jumpers are often cut brilliantly.

THE WRAP
Youll he surprised at how versatile some dresses are: wrap d r o -i *
course, are the obvious exam ple and 1 am so pleased theyve I
into fashion again. They are the ultimate proof o f how the best lmi||
usually comes from the simplest formula. Because the cut is so clciif
you can have a lot more fun with the patterns and colours.
Another advantage o f the sim plicity of wrap dresses is that the Inpli
street has been able to do its own really good versions o f this I)
Furstenherg classic. Honestly, once you have a wrap dress you i <-ul
will, as they say, wonder how you managed without. They are the |
thing for work with a pair o f boots, for summer holidays w ith sunn
flip-flops, and for dates with a fabulous pair o f heels. Plain coloiu
well for the office, whilst wrap dresses in graphic prints or even |
print can look ultra-sexy - perfect for dinner dates and parties. \\ li
von Furstenherg first created the wrap dress hack in the 70s, it win
as almost a feminist garment because it gave women such freedom,
thirty years on, I ca n t think o f a more stylish or practical fashion n
to feminism.
