Music Notes:
Students are preparing for their Holiday Program performance on Tuesday evening December 12 at
Fellowship Reformed Church. I will be sending more information home as we get closer to the date. We have been practicing words, pitches,
rhythms, and movements. This week we will be having an opportunity to audition during music class for solos, small ensembles, instrument
playing, special dances, and speaking roles during the program. Encourage your child to audition for a part. This helps students conquer their
fears, and grow in self confidence and realize their true musical potential.

In addition we are working on:

Kindergarten and First grade students have been studying major and minor tonality in duple meter. There is also an emphasis on pitch
matching and keeping a steady beat. We have had fun with Melody Moo Cow, a stuffed animal that visits regularly and plays movement
games with them.

Second and Third grade students are studying major and minor tonality in duple and triple meter . They are using solfedge syllables to
experience pitch and are learning the pitch names on the staff. We are working on singing in our head voice as a team (or all together with
one unified sound).

Fourth and Fifth grade students are studying major and minor tonalities and complex duple and triple meters including dotted rhythms. We
are using solfedge syllables in a more advanced setting and learning our pitch names on the staff. Fourth grade students are learning to play
the recorder and apply the pitch names to their instrument. They may keep their recorder at school, as they will need it at every music class.
Fifth grade students are learning Ukulele and are focusing on chord structure and singing while playing their instrument. They will use their
school ukulele at music class. Please keep their home ukulele at home until we get closer to the program.

Flashlights! 4th or 5th grade students please send in a small flashlight next week that they can keep at school. We will label them and return
them after the program. I feel so thankful and blessed to be teaching your children. Thank you so much for the strong support of music
education for your children. Please let me know if you have any questions. I am looking forward to sharing our Park music with you at the
Holiday Program.
