Introduction
The MineScape Installation Guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to:
Download MineScape 5.7 installation files
Install MineScape 5.7

Process Flowchart

Note: The Install MineScape License Server step is optional for users in a multi-user environment.
In a multi-user environment, the MineScape License Server software should be installed on a
designated server or host machine. In a single-user environment, the MineScape License Server
software should be installed on the same machine as the MineScape installation.

System Requirements

MineScape Users
The following system requirements are recommended for MineScape users:
Minimum Requirements

Operating Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate Edition 32-bit


Systems
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate Edition 64-bit

Processor 3 GHz Intel Dual Core or greater.

RAM 4 GB or greater.

Hard Disk Up to 800 MB of free disk space for the full MineScape 5.7 installation.
Up to 20 MB of free disk space for the MineScape License Server
installation.
Additional disk space will be required for project files and databases.

Graphics Card 512 MB or greater DirectX compatible.

Mouse 3-button mouse with a scroll wheel.

Monitor Large format widescreen monitor. Dual monitors are also supported.

MineScape Servers
The following system requirements are recommended for MineScape servers:

Operating Microsoft Windows Server 2003 32-bit


Systems
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

Processor Multi Core Intel Xeon.

RAM 16 to 32 GB.

Hard Disk Up to 42 MB of free disk space for the MineScape 5.7 Server installation.
Up to 20 MB of free disk space for the MineScape License Server installation.
Additional disk space will be required for project files and databases. RAID 5 is
recommended for increased performance and reliability.

Network 2 x Ethernet 100/1000 BaseT.


Interface
Virtual A virtual machine does not support Direct3D video acceleration. MineScape's
Machine licensing environment does not support this scenario.

Note: The MineScape GDB plugin does not support the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 operating
system.

Third-Party Requirements

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5

Note: A Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 installer is included with the MineScape 5.7 installation
package. An existing Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 installation must be found on your system in
order to successfully install MineScape 5.7. If a Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 installation is not
present on your system, you will be prompted to install it.

Oracle
Oracle Enterprise, Standard Edition or Personal Edition database (32-bit only) is required for the
MineScape GDB plugin.
Minimum - Oracle 9i 32-bit
Recommended - Oracle 11g 32 bit
Note: Up to 2 GB of free disk space is required for the Oracle installation. Additional disk space will be
required for database files.

Java
A Java virtual machine needs to be loaded in order to install the MineScape License Server. The Java
Runtime Environment version 5.0 is also required by the MineScape GDB reporting system. Java
Runtime version 7.0 can be installed when installing the MineScape Client. The latest Java Runtime
Environment can be downloaded from the official Java website:

Adobe Reader
Adobe Reader version 10 is recommended for plotting within MineScape 5.7. Newer Adobe Reader
drivers, such as version 11, have not been tested against MineScape 5.7 and may produce
undesirable results.

Ventyx SubscribeNET
The MineScape Software Distribution website is a secure website that provides you with 24/7 access
to your software and licenses.
Note: The MineScape Software Distribution website is best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Logging in to SubscribeNET
Activity Steps
1. Open a web browser and browse to the MineScape Software Distribution Site:

The login page displays:

2. Enter the Login ID and Password that you received in an email from
mincom@subscribenet.com with the subject:
"Welcome to Ventyx MineScape On-line Software Distribution Website!
3. Click Login.
If your login details are refused, contact your local MineScape support desk.

MineScape Installation Files


MineScape installation files can be downloaded from the official Ventyx Software Distribution web site.

Note: A valid login ID and password is needed in order to access the Ventyx Software Distribution
web site. Please check your SubscribeNET welcome email with the title Welcome to Ventyx's On-
line Software Distribution Website! for your login details.

Downloading MineScape Installation Files


Activity Steps
1. Log in to the MineScape Software Distribution website.
See Logging into SubscribeNET on page 11 for more details.
The Product Information page displays.

2. Click the MineScape 5.7 hyperlink.


The Software Terms and Conditions page displays.
3. Click I Agree to accept the terms and conditions.
4. Locate the MineScape 5.7 entry.
5. Click the VentyxMineScape_v57.exe hyperlink
The installation file is downloaded using your current download preferences. If the Mass
Download check box is selected, you are able to download multiple files at once by clicking the
Download Selected Files button. See Configuring Download Preferences on page 14 for more
details.

When using FTP or HTTPS


1. Select the download folder.
The installation file will be saved to this folder. Check your web browser settings if you are not
prompted for a download folder.
2. Click Save.

When using Download Manager or Mass Download


The Download Manager window and confirmation prompt will display.

1. Click Browse.
2. Select the download folder.
The installation file will be saved to this folder.
3. Click Select.
4. Click OK.
Note: The Download Manager option and the Mass Download check box require the Java Runtime
Environment. The latest Java Runtime Environment can be downloaded from the official Java web
site.

Configuring Download Preferences


Activity Steps
1. Log in to the Ventyx Software Distribution Site.
2. See Logging into SubscribeNET on page 11 for more details.
The Product Information page displays.
3. Click Download Preferences.

4. Select the download method.


FTP - Download files through your web browser using the File Transfer Protocol. This is the
default option.
HTTP - Download files through your web browser using secure SSL encryption. This is the
most common option and should be used when a company firewall blocks the File Transfer
Protocol.
Download Manager - Download files using an applet-based download manager.
Click the Mass Download check box if you want to download multiple files at once. When
enabled, select the appropriate check box on the download page before clicking the Download
Selected Files button. An applet-based download manager will be used to queue the files for
download.

Note: The Download Manager option and the Mass Download check box require the Java
Runtime Environment. The latest Java Runtime Environment can be downloaded from the official
Java web site.
5. Click Save.

Installing MineScape 5.7


A full MineScape 5.7 installation consists of two components being installed:

MineScape Client
The MineScape Client component is the front end user interface where all of your work with
MineScape will be done. It is here that you will be taking advantage of MineScape's wide array of
plugins.

MineScape Server
The MineScape Server component is the design file server executable that can be installed
separately on a server machine. This is required on any machine that you wish to store your project
information on.
Note: Prior to upgrading to the latest version, we recommend that you confirm the license
maintenance date on your current MineScape installation. You will need to generate new a license if
the existing license is out of date. Please contact your nearest MineScape help desk if you require
further assistance or information.

Full Installation
The following activity steps detail how to complete a full MineScape 5.7 installation. This type of
installation is suitable for single-user environments.
In the case of a multi-user environment, we recommend that you install the MineScape Server
component onto a designated server or host machine, i.e. the machine that will be accessed by your
MineScape users. The MineScape Client component should be installed on the machines that will be
accessing the design file server executable. To install the MineScape Server component separately.
See Server Installation on page 17.
Up to 800 MB of free disk space is needed for a full MineScape 5.7 installation.
MineScape 5.7 will be installed in the following folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ventyx\MineScape 5.7\

MineScape can also be installed via a command line window. See Silent Installation on page 18.
Note: The installation process must be run by a user with administrative privileges. Please contact
your local network administrator or support desk for assistance. Before you can use any of the extra
MineScape features you must have licenses for them. Make sure you have configured your licenses
by following the MineScape Licensing Guide, which is also available for download through the
MineScape Distribution Portal.

Activity Steps
1. Locate the folder that was used to store the downloaded MineScape installation package
(VentyxMineScape_v57.exe).
2. Double-click on the VentyxMineScape_v57.exe file. This will start the self-extracting executable
for the installation.
The required installation files will be are extracted to your %TEMP% directory. Once the self-
extraction is complete, the installation will begin and the MineScape installation splash screen is
displayed.

Note: An existing Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 installation must be found on your system in
order to successfully install MineScape 5.7. If a Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 installation is not
present on your system, you will be prompted to install it first. When prompted, click Accept and
Install.

3. Click Install Client.


Note: The Java Runtime Environment is required by the MineScape GDB reporting system. The
following warning will be displayed if Java Runtime 5.0 is not found on your system.

Click Yes to install Java Runtime 7.0 and the full MineScape 5.7 installation. Click No to only
install MineScape.
4. Click Exit.

Server Installation
The following activity steps detail how to install the design file server executable onto a designated
server or host machine. In a multi-user environment, the design file server executable should be
installed on the machine that will be accessed by MineScape users.
Up to 38 MB of free disk space is needed in order to install the MineScape Server components onto a
domain server. The installation process must be run by a user with administrative privileges.
MineScape 5.7 will be installed in the following folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ventyx\MineScape 5.7\

MineScape can also be installed via a command line window. See Silent Installation on page 18.
Note: The MineScape License Server software will need to be installed onto the designate server or
host machine after successfully installing MineScape. Refer to the MineScape License Management
guide for information how to install the MineScape License Server software.

Activity Steps
1. Locate the folder that was used to store the downloaded MineScape installation package
(VentyxMineScape_v57.exe).
2. Double-click on the VentyxMineScape_v57.exe file. This will start the self extracting executable
for the installation.

The required installation files will be are extracted to your %TEMP% directory. Once the self
extraction is complete, the installation will begin and the MineScape installation splash screen is
displayed.

Note: An existing Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 installation must be found on your system in
order to successfully install MineScape 5.7. If a Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 installation is not
present on your system, you will be prompted to install it first. When prompted, click Accept and

3. Click Install Server. A progress bar is displayed to show the status.
4. Click Exit.

Silent Installation
MineScape 5.7 can also be installed through a command line window. A file archive and compression
program, such as WinZip, needs to be installed in order to use this feature. Contact your local network
administrator or support desk for assistance.

Activity Steps
1. Locate the folder used to store the downloaded installation package.
2. Extract the contents of the installation file to a directory.
For example:
C:\MineScape\
3. Type cmd into the Search programs and files field under the Windows Start button.
4. Click cmd.exe.
A new command line window displays.
5. Through the command line window, locate the directory for the extracted files.
For example:
cd c:\MineScape\
6. Enter the appropriate installation command.
For a full installation, enter:
VentyxMineScape_v57.exe -q Type=client
For a server installation, enter:
VentyxMineScape_v57.exe -q Type=server

A full listing of commands can be displayed using h or help.

Commands Description

-h, -help Display the help dialog.

Type=[client|server] Perform a full installation (client) or a server installation (server).

-java Install the Java Runtime Environment. This switch is omitted by default.

-q, -quiet, -s, -silent Perform a silent installation.

-norestart Suppress any restarts.

-forcerestart Force restarts.

-promptrestart Prompt if a restart is required.

-l, -log Log details to a specific file.

-uninstall Uninstall the application.

-repair Repair an existing installation or install the application if an existing


installation could not be found.

Note: The installation will default to a full install when the Type argument is omitted while using
the quiet or silent command. If a full or server install already exists, the Type argument is ignored
and an uninstall is performed.
7. Press ENTER.

Appendix 1: Known SubscribeNET Errors

Incorrect login details


Ensure the user name and password details are entered correctly. Passwords are case-sensitive. A
temporary password can be requested via the Password Finder page.

Appendix 2: Known Download and Installation


Errors

Downloading Files
FTP not allowed or unable to connect to FTP server
FTP data transfer may be blocked by local network security and firewall settings. If this is the case,
then change the default download method to HTTPS. See Configuring Download Preferences on
page 14.

Installation
Another version of this product is already installed.
The existing MineScape installation needs to be removed.

Not enough disk space


You need to make more space available on the disk where you are installing the product or choose a
new disk location.

Installation is slow
Ensure enough RAM is available on the current machine. All open applications should be closed
before running the installation.
Anti-virus software can result in slow installation speeds and should be temporarily disabled.
Note: Contact your local network administrator or support desk before attempting to disable anti-virus
software.
