consonants and the other is the names of each student in the class. The teacher will
pick first in the box of students name. After the teacher says the name, she would stand
up and ready for the next question. The teacher will pick up again in the other box. So if
the teacher would pick a consonant L, the student must give example at least 10
words starting or ending with L.

2. Presentation of the Lesson

The teacher will introduce the different categories under the Manner of Articulation:
stops, fricatives, affricates, nasals, liquids, glides, and glottal stops.

The teacher will ask the student if they have any idea about the topic.

The teacher will call one student who raises his/her hand and the student will answer
her question.

The teacher will discuss the different meaning and the procedures of each category
under the Manner of Articulation.

The teacher will show some examples of each category and ask her students to add
more.

3. Application

Read the following poem from the The Return of the King by J.R.R Tolkien. Focus on
the initial sounds only. How many fricatives do you find?

Roads go ever on and on

Roads go ever ever on,

Over rock and under tree,

By caves where never sun has shone,

By streams that never find the sea;

Over snow by winter sown,

And through the merry flowers of June,

Over grass and over stone,

And under mountains in the moon.

Now have look at the second part of the poem and focus on the sounds. How many
nasals did you find?

Roads go ever ever on,

Under cloud and under star,

Yet feet that wandering have gone

Turn at last to home afar,.

Eyes that fire and sword have seen

And horror in the halls of stone

Look at last on meadows green

And trees and hills they long have known.

Now look on this poem, focus on initial sounds only. How many plosives?

The Road Goes Ever On

Still round the corner there may wait

A new road or a secret gate,

And though I oft have passed them by.

A day will come at last when I

Shall take the hidden paths that run

West of the moon, east of the sun.

IV. Evaluation

Create a diagram. Inside the diagram, divide it into three parts. In the right part, list all
the consonants and for the middle part are what manner of articulation they belonged.
