Safety Precautions
To reduce the chance of accident, please read the safety precautions very carefully before
operation. The "Caution, Notice, Warning, Danger" in this manual do not represent all the safety
points to be observed, and are only used as supplement to various operation safety points.
Therefore, the installation and operation personnel must be strictly trained and master the
correct operations and all the safety points before actual operation. When operating Emerson
products, the safety rules in the industry, the general safety points and special safety instructions
specified in this manual must be strictly observed.

Electrical Safety
I. Hazardous voltage

Danger

Some components of the power system carry hazardous voltage in operation; direct contact or
indirect contact through moist objects with these components will result in fatal injury.
Safety rules in the industry must be observed when installing the power system. The installation
personnel must be licensed to operate high voltage and AC/DC power. In operation, conductive
objects such as watch, bracelet, bangle, ring, etc. are not allowed to be worn. When water or
moisture is found on the cabinet, turn off the power immediately. In moist environment,
precautions must be taken to keep moisture out of the power system.
"Prohibit" warning label must be attached to the switches and buttons which are not permitted to
be operated on during installation.

Danger
High voltage operation may cause fire and electric shock. The connection and wiring of AC/DC
Cables must be in compliance with the local rules and regulations. Only those who are licensed
to operate high voltage and AC power can perform high voltage operations.

II. Tools

In high voltage and AC operation, special tools must be used. No common or self-carried tools
should be used.

4|Page
III. Thunderstorm

Danger
Never operate on high voltage, AC, iron tower or mast on a day with thunderstorm. In
thunderstorms, a strong electromagnetic field will be generated in the air. Therefore the
equipment should be well earthed in time to avoid damage by lightning strikes.

IV. ESD

Notice

The static electricity generated by the human body will damage the static sensitive elements on
PCBs, such as large-scale ICs, etc. Before touching any plug-in board, PCB or IC chip, ESD
wrist strap must be worn to prevent body static from damaging the sensitive elements. The other
end of the ESD wrist strap must be well earthed.

V. Short-circuit

Danger

During operation, never short the positive and negative poles of the DC distribution unit of the
system or the non-earthing pole and the earth. The power system is constant voltage DC power
equipment; short circuit will result in equipment burning and endanger human safety.

Check carefully the polarity of the cable and connection terminal when performing DC live
operations.
As the operation space in the DC distribution unit is very tight, please carefully select the
operation space.
Never wear a watch, bracelet, bangle, ring, or other conductive objects during operation.
Insulated tools must be used.
In live operation, keep the arm muscle tense, so that when tool connection is loosened, the free

1. Introduction

AMF controller + monitoring system is designed to make the Diesel Generator ON/OFF
depending upon the battery voltage of DCPS. This AMF system will be operating in conjunction
with the DCPS system present on site. Priority of Source to be utilized is defined by the
availability and reliability of four sources Battery, EB, DG and solar. When Battery has sufficient
Backup of power EB will be cut off from load and battery will discharge consider Solar to be
present to charge the battery bank.

AMF controller system consists of AMF controller GCU105 to select AC voltage, it can be taken
from either an electricity board supply referred to as EB supply or from a Diesel Generator (DG) .
the selected AC voltage output then fed to external SMPS.

The AMF system is used for powering up the telecom equipments and charges the battery bank,
where the requirement is of 48VDC in general for operating the equipment.

The signals to operate DG are provided from the solar controller which depend on the battery
voltage or can be operated depending the battery AH. Excellent battery test features provided
along with storage facility of test data.

Along with this DG relay box is provided for the DG On/OFF.

System consists operations as well as Monitoring also. Monitoring unit sends all DG related data,

5. Function
AMF system functionally can be divided in following parts:
1) AMF Module: it is a controller which sense EB and DG voltages, Current, Kwh, Run hrs,
DG alarms. When EB is healthy AMF module switch ON contactor K2 for load shift on EB.
when EB fail and SOC% of battery goes down below the set value eStone gives a
Command to AMF module to start DG then AMF module gives Crank command to
external DG Relay Box .after DG start AMF module switch ON the contactor K1 to shift
the load on DG. now DG Runs for fixed time Period which is set by user in eStone HTTP
page .If any DG alarm active like LLOP, HWT, LFL, Alternator fail, DG fail to Start/stop,
over speed etc DG will immediately stop till Alarm doesnt Reset manually by keypad DG
would not start again .this AMF module is powered (12V) by DC-DC converter.
2) eStone-II :For Monitoring in AMF system eStone-II used .This eStone-II is powered
(48V). eStone-II communicate with M523S (com4) on RS485 and with AMF module on
RS485 (com3) and M521 on COM1(RS232). eStone-II gets data from all three devices
and send it to ever through GPRS modem.

Apart from this eStone also has function of DG start / Stop based on Battery Backup. eStone
getting All Required Parameter from GCU And M523. .based on SOC ( at 50% as set) and
Battery Voltage it energize a DG Relay (DO1) for to start DG . After a set time or
DGOFF SOC reaches it trigger to Stop DG again. Also in between Run time if EB comes,
its off the DG relay.
Remember DG ON Volt and DG OFF Time is settable on http page of eStone-II.
3) DC Cooling FAN: Provision for two FANS is given in the cabinet. The FAN will get triggered
ON when the EB and DG contactor is ON.

4) DC LAMP: Two DC LAMP provided in Cabinet. When Door Gets Open LAMP will be ON and
when Door Close It will be in OFF state.

6. Operation:

AMF system operations are as under:

Solar Power hybrid system

EB
OR To existing SMPS
DG

1) When EB is available EB contactor (K1 and K3) should be hold and DG should be STOP.
EB voltage continually to be monitor by AMF Controller. Under/over voltage to be detect by AMF
module.

2) When EB fail EB contactor OFF immediately and AMF module wait for DG ON till Remote start is
Open. Remote start is close by eStone through Relay Interface board at Defined DGONSOC Value or
LOW Battery Voltage or battery low PFC or Battery voltage sensing. AMF module senses this relay on
Remote Start Input to start the DG. AMF starts DG by three consecutive cranks. Crank time period
and crank rest time is set by setting in AMF module. LLOP need to be short.

3) The eStone will get the current battery voltage values from DCPS controller through RS232
communication or RS485 communication. If M523s DCPS controller is there, then RS485
communication will be there between AMF system and DCPS controller. If M521S controller is there,
the RS232 communication will be there AMF system and DCPS controller. This communication
distance should not be more than 10Mtrs.

4) After DG starts Load to be shift on DG by switch ON contactor K2 and K4.

5) If EB is not available DG run for set time period (settable eStone Http page ) and DGOFFSOC reaches
in eStone. Like MAXDG RUN TIME ends eStone again ON DO relay to stop DG.

6) If EB comes between duration of DG run time AMF module wait for Mains Restoration time and if EB
is healthy it OFF the contactor K2 & K4 and hold Contactor K1 and K3.then AMF gives solenoid
command to DG to stop the DG.
