Notes: You will start with the front/face of the pillow. The pockets & numbers will be added next. You will then work on the back & remaining pieces. This will give the numbers time to dry before assembling the pillow. When you see this in the pattern, [sc, hdc x 5], it means repeat this sequence 5 times. (sc, hdc) means work into the same st. For the numbers I used a 1” numbers stencil.

Attaching Pockets:

Lay the front piece on a flat surface. Starting with the bottom pocket, line up the top of the pocket with the top of row 41, centering it on the front piece. (see photo below) Each individual pocket consists of 9 rows. Using pins, mark each individual pocket & pin in place.

Numbering the individual pockets:

Start with the top left pocket. Using the fabric paint, (this is what I used >>) number each individual pocket from 1-24. A number stencil may be very helpful. Set front aside to allow the paint to dry. Continue making the rest of the pieces.

Brim note: From row 2 on, do not join. Use a stitch marker to mark your rows. Brim:

Change to white yarn, sl st in the front loop of next st, ch 1, turn.

1. Working in the BLO, sc in each st until 2 sts remain, sc2tog, sl st to join. (89) (this is done, because an odd # of sts is needed for the rest of the brim).

2. Ch 1, turn, dc in the same st, *sl st in next, dc*, repeat around.

Continue working *sl st, dc *, until piece measures 3” from the start of row 2. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. (you may prefer to not sew the brim to the hat)

Fold the brim up, and sew to hat.

Pom:

With H hook & white yarn,

1. Magic loop 6 sc sts, (or ch 2, 6 sc in 2 nd ch from hook), pull closed.

2. 2 sc in each st around. (12)

3. *sc, 2sc*, repeat around. (18)

4. *sc 2, 2sc*, repeat around. (24)

5. *sc 3, 2sc*, repeat aroun. (30)

6-9. sc in each st around. (30)

13. *sc2tog*, repeat around, sc in next st, sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. Stuff firmly & sew pom to tip of hat.

Holly leaves: Make 2 With H hook & green yarn, Chain 12, sl st in 2 nd ch from hook, sc, hdc 2, *(dc, ch 2, sl st in 2 nd ch from hook, dc), hdc 2*, repeat once, 3 hdc in last ch. Working on the opposite side of ch, hdc 2, *(dc, ch 2, sl st in 2 nd ch from hook, dc), hdc 2*, repeat once, sc, sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.

Berries: Make 3 With G hook & red yarn, Magic loop 5 sc sts, (or ch 2, 5sc in 2 nd chain from hook), join and pull closed. Leave a tail for sewing.

Candy cane: Red & white yarn With G hook & starting with red yarn,

1. Magic loop 5 sc sts, (or ch 2, 5 sc in 2 nd ch from hook), join & pull closed.

2. Ch 1, sc in same st , sc 4, sl st to join.

3. Change to white yarn, ch 1, sc in same st, sc 4, sl st to join.

4. Ch 1, sc in same st, sc 4, sl st to join.

5. Change to red yarn, ch 1, sc in same st, sc 4, sl st to join.

6. Ch 1, sc in same st, sc 4, sl st to join.

7-18. Repeat rows 3-6. Fasten off leaving a tail. Fold pipe cleaner in half & insert into candy cane. Trim ends to fit. Use the tail to weave in & out of remaining sts, pull closed. Weave in ends.

Cord:

With H hook & white yarn, Make a chain 28” long. Sc in 2 nd ch from hook and across. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.

Assembly: (make sure your #’s are dry before continuing) Center the top of the nose on the top of row 10 of the face. Sew in place. Attach safety eyes between rows 7 & 8, centered over the nose. (see main photo) Fold the eyebrows in half & sew above the eyes. Place the mustache directly below the nose, butting up against it. Sew the mustache to pillow, leaving the sides of the mustache free.

With wrong sides together, place the front of the pillow over the back, pin in place. With matching yarn, sew the sides together. Stuff the pillow. Place the hat at the top of the pillow & pin in place. With soft white yarn, sew the hat to the pillow. (I did not stuff the hat, but you may wish to). Do so before you finish sewing the hat in place.

Place the holly leaves on the brim as desired, sew in place. (see main photo) Sew the berries over the holly leaves. Attach one end of the cord to the top of the brim & off to the side. Attach the other end to the top of the candy cane. And you are done!!
