BluPRO Sensors for SpO2 Measurement

Thanks to the consistent further development of its SpO2 sensor technology,
NIHON KOHDEN is once again able to demonstrate with the BluPRO series of
probes just how precise and stable measurement results can be when measuring
arterial oxygen saturation.
Thanks to the parallel mounting of the sensor components, the reusable SpO2
sensor fits comfortably on any finger. Moreover, the mechanical design provides
for exact alignment of the optical components in respect of each other and
external light is effectively shielded out. The sensors are water tight and insensitive
to disinfectants.
The underlying philosophy when developing the single-use SpO2 sensors was
precise positioning of LED and photodetector. Therefore the two optical
components are designed with mechanical separation.
The paediatric version of the sensors features an additional child-friendly motif
series.

1972 Development of Measurement Method for the Pulsoximetry (SpO2 Measurement)

The method for determination of arterial oxygen saturation, based on the
photoelectric plethysmography, was conceptualised and implemented in 1972 by
the Japanese bio-engineer Takuo Aoyagi (NIHON KOHDEN Corporation). This idea
came about while using an ear densitometer for recording dilution curves for dyes
(pigments). The first commercial oximeter OLV-5100 was presented by
NIHON KOHDEN back in 1975.
This method has been used worldwide since the late 1970s and has since then
been further refined by many manufacturers.
The NIHON KOHDEN SpO2 sensors of the BluPRO-Series are at the cutting edge
of this progressive technology.

BluPRO-SpO2 Sensors
The sensors of the BluPRO series are water tight, so you can clean them under running water or even immerse them in a soapy
alkaline or disinfectant solution (glutaraldehyde solution 2.0 % or hydrochloric alkyl diaminoethylene glycine 0.5 %)!
In the finger version of the sensor, the sensor upper and lower shells are mounted in parallel thus, providing, on the one hand, exact
alignment of the optical sensor components vis--vis one another and, on the other hand, markedly enhanced comfort during long-
term wear.
In addition, flexible lateral flaps shield out external light, thus preventing corruption of the measuring signals as a result of ad-
ditional artificial light sources!
The single-use versions place special emphasis on exact positioning of LED and photodetector. For this reason the two optical
components are designed separately and can thus be brought into precise alignment with each other by the user.
The outcome of these myriad innovative detailed solutions is more precise and more stable measurement results.

General Warranty Regulations

NIHON KOHDEN offers a one-year warranty for their products against material
defects and functional breakdowns starting from the day of delivery.
Excluded from this warranty are consumable materials such as recorder paper,
ink and batteries. NIHON KOHDEN products in which a defect occurs during this
warranty period will be repaired or replaced by NIHON KOHDEN customer
services or will be repaired or replaced by the authorised specialist dealer, pro-
vided that the products were used in accordance with the instructions given in
the Operating Instructions.
No other persons or organisations are authorised to grant a warranty or enter
into obligations for our products. NIHON KOHDEN does not recognise any other
form of warranty, whether implicit or in writing.
The warranty claim expires as soon as servicing measures, technical modifica-
tions or other product changes are carried out by personnel not authorised by
NIHON KOHDEN or without the explicit agreement of NIHON KOHDEN.
Furthermore, the warranty claim expires in the event of unauthorised opening
of the device, of re-installation or repair by personnel not authorised by
NIHON KOHDEN as well as in the event of removal of the rating plates, in the
event of damage resulting from negligence, the use of force, or in the event of
damage caused by fire, lightning, water, vandalism, force majeure or improper
installation or use.
Warranty for reusable SpO2 sensors

The warranty period granted by NIHON KOHDEN for SpO2 sensor materials and
workmanship ends 6 months after opening the packaging, but by the latest 12
months after delivery. NIHON KOHDEN or its authorised specialist dealer will
repair or replace defective sensors provided that they have been used in
accordance with the Instructions for Use.
