GUIDELINES FOR PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION OF BTech
SEMINAR/MINI & MAIN PROJECT/INDUSTRIAL TRAINING REPORT

1. NO OF COPIES TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE DEPARTMENT

The number of copies of the report to be submitted to the Department is


For Seminar 3 copies
For Mini & Main Project 3 copies
For Industrial Training 2 copies
One copy will be retained by the Department and the other copy will be returned to the students
after signature of In-charge and Head of Department. A soft copy on good quality CD will also
have to be submitted to the Department.

2. STRUCTURE OF THE REPORT

Cover page: The title of the seminar/project, author, department, month and year of submission
along with the emblem of the College should be included on the front cover. This has to be made in
a special thick plastic coated paper. (See sample: page no. 6)

There should be three main parts of the report:


Preliminary Part
Body of the report
Concluding or Final part

PRELIMINARY PART (Place all the pages as in the order below)

Cover Page
Certificate On thick plastic coated paper (See Sample)
Acknowledgment
Abstract
Table of contents
List of abbreviations, if any
List of figures, if any
List of symbols, if any
List of tables, if any

BODY OF THE REPORT

Contains the different chapters.


Chapter 1 should contain the Introduction, motivation, objectives &
methedology
Chapter 2 should contain the Literature Survey, where ever applicable.

Last Chapter should contain the Conclusions & future scope
Every chapter should contain introduction & conclusion except chapter 1
(chapter 1 doesnot require conclusion)
The no. of chapters in between Chapter 1 and Last Chapter should be arranged into 2 or 3. The
pages in a chapter should be not less than 3.

CONCLUDING OR FINAL PART

References (See Sample)


Appendix or Appendices (if any)

3. NUMBERING OF PAGE, SECTIONS, SUBSECTIONS, EQUATIONS,


FIGURES, ETC
The preliminary part of the report should be numbered in ROMAN NUMERALS
(i,ii,), starting from List of abbreviations.
The first page of the first chapter onwards should be numbered in ARABIC
NUMERALS (1,2,). The number should be at the bottom of the page and should be
centered.
The page should contain the name of the department (on the left) and the college
(on the right) as Footer along with the page number. (See Sample)
The section and subsection numbers under a particular chapter should be as
follows.
o For eg., the sections of Chapter 2 should be numbered as 2.1,2.2,2.3,
o The subsections in section 2.2 should be numbered 2.2.1, 2.2.2, 2.2.3,
o Avoid subsections under a subsection (ie, 2.2.1.1 is not allowed)
The figures in Chapter 2 should be numbered Fig.2.1, Fig.2.2,
The tables in Chapter 2 should be numbered Table 2.1, Table 2.2,
The equations in Chapter 2 should be numbered Eqn(2.1), Eqn(2.2),

All figures, tables and equations should have proper captions.

Usually figure and equations captions are written below the figure or equation.

All table captions are written on top of the table. (Centered)

4. PAGE DIMENSION AND BINDING SPECIFICATIONS:

The dimension of the project report should be in A4 size. The margins are to be set as
given in the table below.

5. PREPARATION FORMAT:

Abstract Abstract should be one page synopsis of the report typed, 1.5 line
spacing, Font Style Times New Roman (TNR) and Font Size 12.

Table of Contents A specimen copy of the Table of Contents of the seminar report
is given below, TNR, Font Size 12, 1.5 line spacing. (See Sample)
List of Tables, List of Figures, List of Equations & List of Abbreviations the
list should use exactly the same captions as they appear in the body of the report. 1.5 line
spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this list. The abbreviations should
be in alphabetical order. (See Sample)
Chapters The chapters may be broadly divided into 3 parts (i) Introductory
chapter, (ii) Chapters developing the main theme (iii) and Conclusion.

The main text will be divided into several chapters (preferably not more than 3) and each
chapter may be further divided into several sections and sub-sections(no sub-subsections)

Each chapter should be given an appropriate title (Dont use Applications,


Advantages , Dis-advantages, etc as titles.)

Tables and figures in a chapter should be placed in the immediate vicinity of the
reference where they are cited.

List of References The listing of references should be typed 4 spaces below the
heading REFERENCES in single spacing and should be justified. References can be
numbered as 1, 2, 3 etc in order in which they are referred to in the body of the report. A
typical reference in the body of the report will appear as as stated in [3] or in [3]-[5] etc.
This is the method followed in IEEE journals.

References to journal papers should contain (in the order) the name of the author(s),
title of the paper, name of the journal, Volume no., Issue no., particular pages (pp) and
year of the publication. If there are more than three authors, it is enough to mention the
name of the first author followed be et.al (meaning and others).

Conference papers should mention (in the order) the name of the author(s), title of
the paper, name of the conference, place in which the conference was held and date, month
and year of the conference along with the page numbers of the paper in the proceedings of
the conference.

Reference to books should contain (in the order) the name of the author, title of the
book, name of the publisher, edition no. and year of publication.

Examples of reference items of different categories shown in the References section include:
example of a book in [1]
example of a journal article in [2]
example of a conference paper in [3]
example of a website in [4]

Appendices - Some items which are typically included in appendices are: Major
derivations or theoretical developments, important and original computer programs, data
sheets that are too large to be represented simply in the results chapter, pictures or diagrams
of results which are not important enough to keep in the main text.

6. TYPING INSTRUCTIONS

One and a half spacing should be used for typing the general text. The general text
shall be typed in the Font style Times New Roman and Font size 12.

Boundary lines are not allowed on the report pages.
