Learning about the 1930s

The best way to appreciate the atmosphere and social dynamics of the novel is to learn about the time
period. To do this, groups will become subject matter experts regarding numerous elements of the
decade, and then present their findings to the class. To do this each group will create a wiki-page on
our website to share the information. Over the next week or two you will present your wiki-page to
the class.

Topics will include:

Entertainment (music, movies, etc.)
Life in the 1930s south Jim Crow History
Harper Lee & the history of the novel Other major historical events
The Scottsboro Trials

We will spend one day in the IMC working on the research, and two blocks working with your group to
begin developing your page.

Your Wiki-page must include:

 Minimum of six (6) source 2 books, 2 database
sources, 2 internet sources - (sorry no Wikipedia-
look for cites with .org, .edu, .gov, etc.)
Minimum of five (5) photos/clip arts
Minimum of three (3) links to other websites that
offer additional information regarding your topic
Use of color, graphics, titles and captions
A minimum of six (6) entries on the webpage
by each group member
Work citations at the end of the page

Grading Group & Individual:

The project is worth a total of 100 points. Students will be able to earn a maximum of 50 group points
and 50 individual points; based on individual contribution to the project; how well the group worked
together; how well the group used the research time in the IMC, as well as, the two in-class working
days; how well the page stayed on topic, and the overall aesthetics of the wiki-page.

A Rubric will be handed out to the entire class the day we begin planning.
