1. What is culture?
Culture is the man-made environment of the society.
The ideas, beliefs, custom, art, religion, music and dance of the people
is culture.
Food habits of the people and the festivals celebrated are also a part of
culture.
2. How is India a diverse country?
India is a diverse country because different parts of India have
different customs, languages, dress and food habits.

People also follow different religions.

3. What is the art of folk theatre? Give two examples.


Stories with moral lessons, which are told through song, dance and
drama are called art of folk theatre.
Examples are songs and dances based on Ramayana and Mahabharata.

4. Which are the two dance forms of Kerala?


Kathakali and Mohiniattam are the two dance forms of Kerala.

II. Long Answers

1. Write short notes on the backwaters and the Gompas.


Backwaters of Kerala are peculiar to the state. They are a network of
canals and lakes that are fed by almost 38 rivers. The chief mode of
transport is by boat.

Gompas or monastries are an important part of the people of Ladakh.


They serve as places of worship and meditation and also serve as
schools.

2. Which are the two main schools of Indian classical music? What is the
Gharana tradition?
The two main schools of Indian classical music are the North Indian
school or Hindustani music and the South Indian school or Carnatic
music.

In the Gharana tradition the student learns music from the guru by
living in gurus house.

3. How has globalization affected our world today?


Globalization has linked the world through a global network.
Economically it has increased money flow, investment and international
trade not only in India but throughout the world.
Social and environmental activities are also being affected internationally as
globalization has brought all the countries into single giant world market.
