CHAPTER 3

Working with EMA3100A TMS

3.1. Overview

EMA3100A Target Motion Simulator supports two project types which are Motion Modeling Projects
(MMP) and Target Tracking Projects (TTP);
In 2D Cartesian Coordinates
In 3D Cartesian Coordinates
In Polar Coordinates (Range-Azimuth)
In Polar Coordinates (Range-Elevation)
In Polar Coordinates (Azimuth-Elevation)

Apart from creating and working with Motion Modeling and Target Tracking Projects, it provides some
standalone tools (without a need for project creation) which are;
Path Modeler
Path Combiner
Trajectory Viewer
SM Modeler
MD Modeler

3.2. Creating and Saving Projects

Both in Cartesian and in Polar domains, Motion Modeling Projects (MMP) creation starts with selection
of New project item from Project menu, which opens the New Project Creation dialog. (To create a new
project select Project > New)

New Project Creation form consists of fields for Project Name entry, Project Type selection and project
Folder selection. After properly naming the project and selecting Motion Modeling as Project Type,
Project Folder can be chosen from existing directories\folders or a specific folder to hold project items can
be created. Details of creating Motion Modeling projects are presented in Chap 4, Motion Modeling
Projects.

Both in Cartesian and in Polar domains, Target Tracking Project (TTP) creation starts with selection of
New project item from Project menu, which opens the New Project Creation dialog. (To create a new
project select Project > New)

As in the case of Motion Modeling projects, New Project Creation form consists of fields for project name
entry, Project Type selection and project Folder selection. After properly naming the project and selecting
Target Tracking as Project Type, Project Folder can be chosen from existing directories\folders or a
specific folder to hold project items can be created. Details of creating Target Tracking projects are
presented in Chap 5, Target Tracking Projects.

Both Motion Modeling Projects and Target Tracking Projects, a project can be saved anytime by clicking
Save from Project menu. Similarly for both type of projects, the project can be saved by another name by
as another project by clicking Save As from Project menu.

3.3. Opening Existing Projects

Opening existing projects (previously created and saved mmp or ttp projects) is simply done by clicking
Open item from Project menu, a File dialog form is opened and depending on the selection of mmp or ttp
project extension a previously saved MMP or TTP project is opened.

If the project opened is a Motion Modeling project then the form displayed on is Path Modeler (Path
Modeler (TMM-Cartesian) if the project was created in Cartesian domain and Path Modeler (TMM-Polar)
if the project was created in Polar domain)
33

If the project opened is a Target Tracking project then the form displayed on is Target Configuration
(Target Configuration-Cartesian Domain) if the project was created in Cartesian domain and Target
Configuration (Target Configuration-Polar Domain) if the project was created in Polar domain)

3.4. Standalone Tools

EMA3100A Target Motion Simulator, standalone tools which are

Path Modeler
Path Combiner
Trajectory Viewer
SM Modeler
MD Modeler
normally do not need project creation, however during their use some temporary files are created, those
temporary files deleted upon close of the session. Except Trajectory Viewer, all other tools also generate
some files (Path Modeler and Path Combiner generates path/trajectory files, SM Modeler and MD
Modeler creates model files which can be saved to selected locations and can be used later on in other
projects.
