O how dreadful is this place! This is the house of God, and gate of heaven: and men shall
call it the palace of God. O how amiable are thy dwellings, O Lord of hosts: my soul hath a
desire and longing to enter into the courts of the Lord.
COLLECT
O God, who in a yearly remembrance dost renew to us the hallowing of this thy holy temple,
and dost suffer us continually to draw near in safety unto thy holy mysteries: mercifully hear
the prayers of thy people; and grant that whosoever entereth this house to ask thy blessing may
rejoice in the obtaining of all that he desireth.
FIRST READING 1 Kings 8.22-30
In those days: Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the
congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven. And he said: Lord God of
Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant
and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart; who hast kept with

with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying: There shall not fail thee

word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father. But will
God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain
thee; how much less this house that I have builded? Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of
thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the
prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day: that thine eyes may be open toward
this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said: My name shall be
there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this
place. And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when
they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when
thou hearest, forgive.
GRADUAL
This dwelling is Gods handiwork: it is a mystery above all price, that cannot be spoken
against. O God, before whom standeth the choir of angels: graciously hear the prayers of
thy servants.

In those days: I, John, saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of
heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of
heaven saying: Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them,
and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And
God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither
sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed

GOSPEL St Luke 19.1-10
At that time: Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. And, behold, there was a man
named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. And he
sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of
stature. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to
pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said
unto him: Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it,
they all murmured, saying: That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. And
Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the
poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him
fourfold. And Jesus said unto him: This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as
he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was
lost.
