English 101 Lab
Organization:
o Make sure that I understand the prompt that I am working on to not miss any tiny
details necessary to get the best grade possible.
o Include the audience when writing my papers to make sure that I know how to
make sense on the topic I am speaking on.
o Start on my essay early to make sure that I do not stress and have the right
mindset. Doing papers last minute can impair my structure and organization with
writing.
Reading Comprehension:
o I must start reading more, but instead of reading for school I should read out of
my own volition. This will help improve my reading skills and make me speedier
with high comprehension on what I am reading.
o Read earlier in the day because later on in the day my reading skills may be
obstructed from being tired or distracted.
o Annotate key words, points, figures. This will help with my comprehension
because I am highlighting the major points in a reading.
o Stop in the middle of reading and ask myself what have I learned? to make sure
that I am actually comprehending what I have read.
Thesis Statement:
o When creating my thesis statement, I must make sure that there is clarity. I should
continuously refine my thesis to where my paper is headed, which is smart
because my argument must correlate to the flow of my paper.
o Add plenty of detail to my thesis statement and avoid making it too vague and
general; other papers could answer that statement question so it is best to make it
more individual.
Development:
o Create a thesis statement. Making a Thesis will help me know where my paper is
going, or where I want it to go, but it is also looking at the specifics of where I
will be going in my essay.
o Reading other peoples essays will help with my essay development. Looking at
other essays will give me another perspective and another writing style to analyze
and compare with. That can be beneficial to improving how I write.
Conclusion:
o To make it strong and powerful I must: restate the main idea, summarize each
sub-point, and end it with a big bang something to keep the audience thinking.
This will help leave readers understanding what I wrote and have them enticed
even after finishing my essay.
