Dear Sir/Madam,

David Koniuchiwskyj has been working with me as a colleague teacher on the Grade 3-4
team during Term 3 at Moonah Primary School. It very quickly became evident that Davids
calm, firm manner was an excellent way to form relationships with this difficult cohort. He
has worked collaboratively with me to plan and implement learning sequences and we met
several times during each week. David is very happy to both contribute ideas and receive
any advice that was offered by myself or others.
He displays great passion for teaching and goes above and beyond in changing the learning
environment to engage students in his class. The students in his care were highly engaged in
the transformation of their classroom to being on a flight to different destinations around
Australia. His innovative ideas caught their imagination and I was told by some of his
students about how cool it was to be learning about Australian cities by flying there
together as a class.
David demonstrated flexibility and innovation in delivering his teaching program. When he
was required to move students in and out of his classroom during incidents of acting out a
high level of anti-social behaviour, he calmly and quickly moved students away from the
area and showed confidence and a calm professional manner.
David has worked as part of an Action Research team to looking at Inquiry in the classroom.
This required him to spend long hours researching and presenting the findings of the teams
research to a staff meeting.
When debriefing at the end of each day, David always took time to listen to any ideas that I
was currently working on. He often contributed to unpacking ideas in a creative way which
helped me to clarify my thinking and planning.
I highly recommend his calm, firm and innovative teaching style. His genuine care for the
students in his care and throughout the school is evident every time he speaks to a student.
David strives to provide a calm working environment for all students to feel safe to learn in.
He faced some major challenges with several students who often displayed unpredictable
and volatile behaviour. He always dealt with these occasions in a calm and clear manner,
establishing and managing behavioural expectations.
It has been a pleasure to work with a mature, professional and inspired teacher like David
and I wish him luck for his future career and wherever his studies take him. Please do not
