What do you think narrative means?

Having a clear story from being to end and the way it is told.

How the story is told in text.

Story= a sequence of events, known correctly as the plot.
Narrative= the way those events are put together to be presented to an
audience.

Therefore, when analysing a narrative we analyse the construction of the

story i.e. the way it has been put together, not the story itself.
What are the different ways of structuring a narrative?

Multi-strand

List Propps seven archetypes

The villain, who struggles with the hero (formally known as the
antagonist).
The donor.
The princess, a sought-for person (and/or her father), who exists
as a goal and often recognised and marries hero and/or punishes
the villain.
The dispatcher, the person who sends the hero on his quest.
The hero, who departs on a search (seeker-hero), reacts to the
donor abd weds.
The false hero (or anti-hero or usurper), who claims to be the
hero, often seeking and reacting like a real hero (i.e. by trying
to marry the princess)

An attempt to repair the damage.

Equilibrium- Burke and OMalley investigating crime scenes.
The disruptions that OMalley is attacked.
The detectives recognise when they are sat in the office and find the
mail.
Burke attempts to repair the damage by stopping OMalley and going
after Alex.
The new equilibrium is the outcome of the film after Burke finds Alex.
