Reading/Language Arts
Our learning targets for reading this week have included:
*sounds for the letters qu, x, y, z, and u.
*blending 3 letter words.
*rhyming words
*understanding syllables
*understanding backround knowledge in stories.
*monitoring & clarifying our reading
*learning new vocabulary.
*being able to identify complete and incomplete sentences.
*reading just right books
Our Writing learning target has been to write complete sentences that
include nouns, verbs, and adjectives that describe our nouns. We have
spent a lot of time distinguishing whether a group of words is a sentence or
not a sentence. We also learned how to make a web to plan for our writing
and talked about stories having a beginning, middle, and end. It was
interesting this week to have students as we wrote a story about our visit to
the Fire Station suggest a stronger verb. One student suggested we start
our story with, We went to the Fire Station. The second student
suggested, We walked to the Fire Station. It was the 1st student who told
us why the 2nd sentence was better!
