ADJETIVOS

Cmo se utilizan los adjetivos en frases? Cmo es la gramtica de los

adjetivos en ingls?

Hay dos formas bsicas de utilizar los adjetivos:

1. Adjetivo despus del verbo TO BE

Cuando utilizamos los adjetivos con el verbo TO BE, el adjetivo o

adjetivos deben escribirse despus del verbo TO BE, as:

She is happy (ella es feliz)

They are happy and intelligent (son felices e inteligentes)

I am happy, intelligent and polite (soy feliz, inteligente y educado)

2. Adjetivo antes de sustantivo

Tambin podemos utilizar los adjetivos de una forma que causa relativa
dificultad a los hablantes del espaol.

Observa los siguientes ejemplos en espaol y su traduccin al ingls,

intenta observar la posicin del adjetivo (rojos y feliz) en la oracin en
ingls:

Me gustan los carros rojos (I like red cars)

Mi hermano es una persona feliz (my brother is a happy person)

En expresiones en espaol como carros rojos y persona feliz el

adjetivo se utiliza DESPUS de los sustantivos (carros y persona). Por
el contrario, en ingls los adjetivos se usan ANTES de los sustantivos:
red cars y happy person.

3. El adjetivo casi siempre se sita antes del nombre, como hemos visto
al principio de esta leccin. Con algunos verbos el adjetivo se sita detrs
del verbo. Estos verbos son:

to be (ser/estar), to become (ponerse), to feel (sentirse),

to look (parecer), to seem (parecer), to smell (oler),
to taste (gustar)

How are adjectives used in sentences? How is the grammar of

adjectives in English?

There are two basic ways to use adjectives:

1. Adjective after the verb TO BE

When we use the adjectives with the verb TO BE, the adjective or
adjectives must be written after the verb TO BE, like this:

She is happy (she is happy)

They are happy and intelligent (they are happy and intelligent)

I am happy, intelligent and polite (I am happy, intelligent and polite)

2. Adjective before noun

We can also use adjectives in a way that causes relative difficulty for
Spanish speakers.
Look at the following examples in Spanish and their English translation, try
to observe the position of the adjective ("red" and "happy") in the English
sentence:

I like red cars

My brother is a happy person

In Spanish expressions like "red cars" and "happy person" the adjective is
used AFTER the nouns ("carts" and "person"). In contrast, in English the
adjectives are used BEFORE the nouns: "red cars" and "happy person".

3. The adjective almost always stands before the name, as we have seen at
the beginning of this lesson. With some verbs the adjective is placed behind
the verb. These verbs are:
to be
to become
to feel
to look
to seem
to smell
to taste
