PROPOSAL

Topic: Alcohol
- (an overall documentary on its effects and the opinions of it as
well as our final posing question Should the legal drinking age
be lowered?

Purpose of documentary:
- To inform (with elements of entertainment incorporated
throughout).
Our documentary will include a great deal of information throughout
via experts and statistics. As well as that well be including public
opinion and anecdotes in order to make our documentary more
relatable and engaging thus bringing in elements of entertainment.

Type of documentary:
- Mixed. Our documentary will branch into many types as itll
have multiple different purposes and modes.

Style of documentary:
- Our documentary will be formal in the sense that itll be
informative and structured. But itll include many of the general
public, in particular young people, well be keeping it relatively
informal in order to reach our target audience effectively.

Mode of documentary: -
Participatory and Performative
Our most prominent mode will be the Participatory mode. Our
filmmaker/presenter(s) will be involved in the documentary, actively
engaging with the subject in order to gain immediacy and a point of
view from many different aspects.
There may also be elements of the Performative mode as our topic
will focus on the social and emotional impact on the audience.
Narrative structure: Our documentaries narrative structure will be
open, non-linear and single strand.
Our documentary isnt one thatll require a conclusive answer as the
questions we will pose will be answered differently depending on
our target audience. This therefore leave the audience to decide,
after watching the documentary, what they wish to take from the
documentary itself.
Itll be non-linear as it wont be following the events of one person or
one group. Itll unstructured and therefore will have no
order/chronology.
Its debatable whether our documentary will be single or multi
strand. Although we have one overhanging topic of alcohol, we
wont just be discussing the facts of it. Well be looking at itss
effects, personal experiences and opinions from the public.
Ultimately, itll be single strand but will branch off into multiple
subtopics throughout.

Channel and Scheduling:

- ITV2 at 7:30pm
Weve decided that ITV2 will be the most appropriate channel
for our documentary to air on as they tend to discuss more of
the social issues that regard a wide audience that we intend to
reach. ITV2 is also less formal than standard ITV which is why
we decided to air it on here.
Weve agreed on a time of 7:30pm as we find for it to be the
perfect time for the entire family to be sat around the
television thus helping us reaching our desired target audience.

Target Audience:
- Primary: Teens and young adults (15 25)
- Secondary: Adults (30+ - probably more so parents)
Our target audience is inclusive of all ages and gender. Itll be
primarily focused of young adults/adults but in order to provide
what we think will be contrasting opinions, weve set our secondary
audience as older adults/parents.
