Message by
Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau
Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation

Selamat sejahtera, Salam 1Malaysia dan Salam Negaraku

I am delighted to see that the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MOSTI) initiative on
the National Internet of Things (IoT) Strategic Roadmap has gained momentum through the IoT @
NICE 2017 ever since its introduction by MIMOS Berhad, an agency under my ministry in 2015.
A surge in the countrys digital economy has resulted in increasing demand for seamless connectivity,
big data analytics and of course, IoT.
Apart from playing an important role in the digital economy such as e-fulfillment, logistics and
transportation that supports the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ), the world's first special trade zone
that will promote the growth of eCommerce for SMEs and enterprises to conduct businesses and
services, IoT will have a big impact and on-going role in empowering national growth towards the
Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The collaboration between MIMOS and Persatuan Hal Ehwal Internet Malaysia (MyIoTA) in organising
this IoT @ NICE 2017 is a manifestation of another successful engagement with the private sector by
MOSTI.
It is also interesting to note that the IoT @ NICE 2017 is being organised in line with the National Blue
Ocean Strategy (NBOS) with government regulators and agencies such as the Malaysia
Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Malaysian Industry-Government Group for
High Technology (MIGHT) also expected to present their papers.
I trust delegates to the IoT @ NICE 2017 will have a rewarding time in terms of keeping themselves
abreast on the opportunities, cost-effective technology and innovations.
I look forward to meeting up with various stakeholders and captains of the IoT industry.
Have a successful IoT @ NICE 2017.
