The discovery of this megalithic bath known as the Tsar Bath in a city close to
St.Petersburg, Russia at the Palace of Babolovo is one of those.
It was constructed from a single piece of granite that weighed over 160 tonnes that was
transported to the site from the Finnish islands.
The finished object weighs 48 tonnes and can hold 12,000 tonnes of water. That's about
8,000 buckets. Vasily Sakharrov and a team of masons were tasked with the job of
creating the bath and it took them 10 years to complete the project.
When the palace was damaged during WWII the Nazi's tried to transport the object back to
Germany but failed due to it's enormous size. Thus the bath remained where it was at the
palace.
This strange ancient artifact poses many questions, how could the original 160 tonne piece
of granite have been transported to the site when the Germans couldn't even transport the
48 tonne finished bath?
