Original Paragraphs:
Ethnography is both a social science as well as
an art. On one perspective, the social science
perspective, ethnography is used to get to a
higher level of comprehension of a group of
people and their culture, seeing what they do as
well as how they do it. To do this one must
embed themselves in whichever group you are
studying for a long time, at least a year, and
leave their lifestyle, it would not do for you to
merely watch them you must live their lifestyle
to truly understand them. Then you would
compare whatever your findings are to findings
done from an ethnology of another group of
people, finalizing your ethnography, a
comparison of both cultures.
The origins of contemporary cultural
anthropology are mostly traced back to the 19th
century way of studying people called
participant observation. In this type of studies,
one would go work with a group of people and
live their lifestyle. Unlike before, where people
simply observed from afar and came to their
own conclusions of what people were doing and
why they did it.
Research:
Nine simple strategies:
1. Remove words that mean little or
nothing
2. Delete words that add no meaning
3. Delete words that repeat meaning of
other words
4. Delete words implied by other words
5. Replace a phrase with a word
6. Change negatives to affirmatives
7. Metadiscosure
8. Hedges and intensifiers
9. Productive redundancy.
The research helped me get a better
understanding that being too wordy is not
for the better all the time, and that you need
to find just the right amount intensifiers, not
having too much, but also not too little.

Strategies used:
When revising and rewriting my paragraphs
I used for the most part strategies 1 through
3. I realized that I have many words that
were simply not needed to get my point
across. My paragraphs were too wordy.
