3.1.3 Double Switching Gateway Networking

Figure 3-2 double switching gateway networking

A core network NE is the central aggregation node of a network. To ensure the reliability of a
core network, two switching gateways are pooled for PS service cold backup in
eLTE3.1.Figure 3-2 shows the networking diagram, where each switching gateway is
connected to all base stations in the SI FLEX manner and connected to the eMDC610. Two
core networks are pooled and connected to the eNodeBs. UEs work on different core
networks based on load sharing modes. When a fault occurs on one of the core networks,
services can be provided using the other core network to improve the reliability of the overall
network. When eSCN1 is faulty, its services are interrupted, and the eNodeB resends an
attachment request to eSCN2. Services are interrupted during the period, so that is a cold
backup for PS services.
In a resource pool manner, each switching gateway is equally connected to two eMDC610s. A
switching gateway can recognize only one eMDC610, but an eMDC610 can recognize two
switching gateways. The two switching gateways are independent of each other. The eNodeB
checks which switching gateway the UE is on. If eSCN1 is faulty, services are interrupted.
The related UE resends an attachment request, and the eNodeB reselect eSCN2 as the
switching gateway where the UE is on.
Two eSCNs can be deployed remotely. There is no limit in the distance and the transmission
capacity relates to QoS. The PS pool does not expand the system specifications and only
strengthens the reliability of PS services. Time indicators are as follows:

Time parameter indicator 1 Time for accessing new services to the PS pool 10s

Time parameter indicator 2 Time for the interruption of existing services in < 180s
