Board types in a HERT subrack include the main processing and transmission board,
baseband board, and extended transmission board. However, an eSCN230 is installed with
only the main processing and transmission board (CNPU) and extended transmission board
(UTRPC).
2 Product Structure
2.1 Overview
An eSCN230 is a switching gateway based on the 2U-high HERT hardware platform. It
provides functions of a core network for private networks in medium and small-sized network
scenarios. Being flexible to be configured, the eSCN230 has a high price performance ratio in
medium and small-sized network scenarios.
eSCN230 can use the mapped N610E cabinet (also used by the 14U eCNS equipment) to
complete on-site installation. For details about the cabinet, refer to the corresponding site
solution.
This chapter mainly describes the hardware equipment structure, NE positions in the solution,
and interfaces.
Supports dual machine backup (Disaster Recovery). In this situation, when one eCNS230 fails,
which has been carried business interruption, another eCNS230 start to work, business
recovery will be completed within 3 minutes.
Interconnectivity between Different Communication Systems:
Supports interconnection with the TETRA system and the PSTN system.
Note: Does not support point calls to users within the TETRA system. Users in the PSTN
system cannot participate in group calls.
Routing behind the MS
This feature allows multiple terminal equipments to access the Witen network through one
wireless terminal and communicate with the system equipment. Wireless terminal equipment
can attain or configure a MS address, after which multiple terminal devices can individually
attain network IP addresses and use them to communicate with other devices within the Witen
network. These network addresses can be different from the MS addresses of other devices.
PS POOL
Using the PS POOL feature, the eSCN230 carries out load balancing functions whereby PS
services can be shared between two working eSCN230. When one of the two systems fail, the
other eSCN230 can immediately take over all the PS services and ensure that they continue.
Networking Function
The eSCN230 supports VLAN, IPV4 routing, and a star network of eNodeB.
O&M Function
Supports various eOMC functions, including single board reset during equipment
maintenance.
Transmission Service Function.
Supports up to 30 base stations; reduces end to end delay (voice); Supports data forwarding
within a star network of multiple base stations.
Transmission Configuration Function.
Supports network port parameter configuration; through MML, the eSCN230 is able to
configure rate, duplex mode, and adaptive modulation parameters.
VLAN configuration: configures the VLAN ID and the priority VLAN of a network port
through MML.
Supports configuration, deletion and inquiry of the IPV4 routing.
User and Group Call Management.
Manages user and group information and synchronizes network elements.
Public Services.
Completes user sign-in and user sign-off during start up and shut down, respectively;
Completes mobile management and weekly tracking area update of idle status terminals

3 Application of Scene
3.1 Overview
eSCN230 supports medium and small network, making the networking solutions more
complete. Table 3-1 describes the specifications of mall, medium and large networks.
It is recommended that you adopt a 14U core network device for a large network and a 2U
switching gateway eSCN230 for a small or medium network. Only the applications and
networking of small and medium networks are described in this document.
The switching gateway is often deployed independently in a system that includes UEs, eBBUs,
eRRUs, eSCN230s, the dispatching system, the application server, and media gateways.
An eSCN230 switching gateway supports functions of the HSS, MME, S-GW, and P-GW. It
provides interfaces for the dispatcher in order to achieve the dispatching and managing on
basic and supplementary voice and video services. It also provides interfaces for external data
application servers to achieve the routing and processing for user data (PS data and
multimedia data).
A core network NE is the central aggregation node of a network. To ensure the reliability of a
core network, two switching gateways are pooled for PS service cold backup in
eLTE3.1.Figure 3-2 shows the networking diagram, where each switching gateway is
connected to all base stations in the SI FLEX manner and connected to the eMDC610. Two
core networks are pooled and connected to the eNodeBs. UEs work on different core
networks based on load sharing modes. When a fault occurs on one of the core networks,
services can be provided using the other core network to improve the reliability of the overall
network. When eSCN1 is faulty, its services are interrupted, and the eNodeB resends an
attachment request to eSCN2. Services are interrupted during the period, so that is a cold
backup for PS services.
In a resource pool manner, each switching gateway is equally connected to two eMDC610s. A
switching gateway can recognize only one eMDC610, but an eMDC610 can recognize two
switching gateways. The two switching gateways are independent of each other. The eNodeB
checks which switching gateway the UE is on. If eSCN1 is faulty, services are interrupted.
The related UE resends an attachment request, and the eNodeB reselect eSCN2 as the
switching gateway where the UE is on.
Two eSCNs can be deployed remotely. There is no limit in the distance and the transmission
capacity relates to QoS. The PS pool does not expand the system specifications and only
strengthens the reliability of PS services. Time indicators are as follows:
Time parameter indicator 1 Time for accessing new services to the PS pool 10s
Time parameter indicator 2 Time for the interruption of existing services in < 180s

5.2 Characteristics
Friendly and easy-to-use the eLMT graphic user interface (GUI), improving user
experience
Besides the eOMC, the eSCN230 maintenance system provides dedicated maintenance
software the eLMT for operations and maintenance on the eSCN230. The eLMT client is easy
to use and has powerful functions, facilitating the operation and improving user experience.
Two access methods, enriching the ways of maintenance
Remote maintenance and local maintenance are provided for different O&M scenarios.
Powerful O&M functions, facilitating fault locating and rectification
With the O&M tools, the customer can obtain detailed product information by querying
device status, configuring data, and managing device status.
In case of emergencies, you can reset the board to quickly rectify the fault.
Advanced software management functions for secure and smooth upgrades
The eSCN230 provides a remote upgrade tool, which enables the operator to upgrade the
software at the O&M center without interrupting ongoing services. Key data is backed up in
the process of upgrading. Therefore, a rollback can be generated immediately when upgrade
fails, and the system recovers to a normal state in a short time.
After the upgrade is complete, version consistency check can be performed to verify the
version correctness.
Convenient device installation, commissioning, and upgrading solutions for fast network
deployment
The eSCN230 is installed, commissioned, configured with common data, and strictly tested
before the delivery. Therefore, the hardware installation on site includes only cabinet
installation and cable connecting. After hardware installation is complete, hardware and
software commissioning can be performed by loading software and data files, which is
convenient and reliable.
Robust security operation mechanism, preventing risks caused by misoperations
The O&M tool confirms key operations with the operator repeatedly to prevent risks from
misoperations.
