APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR NASA SUMMER INTERNSHIP FEBRUARY 1

HAMPTON, Va. - Langley Research Center is once again opening its gates
to select college students for a chance at hands-on research and
face-to-face interaction with NASA scientists and engineers.

In its 26th year, the Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars

(LARSS) Program is a 10-week program intended to encourage
high-caliber college students to pursue and earn graduate degrees and
to enhance their interest in aerospace research. The LARSS program
selects approximately 125 undergraduate and graduate students
annually to spend their summer at Langley working and learning using
professional research resources and facilities.

These students, pursuing degrees in engineering, science, mathematics

and other aerospace-related disciplines as well as majors that lend
support to NASA's mission such as business and public administration,
management, journalism and accounting, work directly with an assigned
mentor on special research projects.

Along with work in their discipline, the LARSS program also offers
weekly lectures from NASA researchers to give the students the
opportunity to learn about careers within NASA. Students receive
up-close-and-personal tours of Langley wind tunnels, laboratories and
historic facilities.

"The intern program at NASA Langley is a wonderful opportunity for

students that also benefits mentors," said Mary Gainer, a NASA
researcher and LARSS mentor. "We are able to provide motivated
students the opportunity to learn more than what is typically covered
in the classroom."

To apply, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

be a U.S. citizen; a rising junior, senior or graduate student with
enrollment at a U.S. college or university; and have at least a 3.0
grade point average on a 4.0 scale. All students meeting these
requirements are strongly encouraged to apply. The application
deadline is Feb. 1, 2007.

Inquiries can be directed to Debbie Murray, LARSS program coordinator,

at 757-864-5215 or by email at d.b.murray@larc.nasa.gov or to Sarah
Pauls, LARSS program assistant, at 757-864-4394 or
s.e.pauls@larc.nasa.gov.

The LARSS Program is managed for NASA by the Virginia Space Grant
Consortium (VSGC) under the auspices of the National Institute of
Aerospace (NIA).
