Leadership standards met (CPSELs):

CAPE 8: 3A: Operations and Resource Management

Project Expectation - Briefly describe the field experience you had planned:

When I set out to complete this field experience, my goal was to get more hands on
experience as an administrative designee. I wanted to work with students on discipline
issues and interact with parents on attendance and performance issues. Another goal that I
had for this fieldwork project was to gain more information on anti-bullying through the use of
conducting research.

Project Outcome(s) - Briefly describe the field experience you had if it differed from what you
planned:

Through this field experience, I was able to gain the hands on experience that I desired
through my time as an administrative designee. I was able to serve as the administrative
designee on four different occasions. My research on anti-bullying led me to an interesting
place. Initially, I had planned to only research anti-bullying, but there was so much value in
the content I had to put it into action. I have begun the steps to creating an anti-bullying
student club with a partnership with the Cool 2 Be Kind organization. I have also sent out
professional development links to the teachers so the teachers can share the information with
the students. The goal is to incorporate anti-bullying with PBIS as a standard.

Report of Implementation: Add attachments to verify your experience such as logs, agendas,
documents, etc. (list attachments here)

Self-evaluation and Reflection: What did you learn about leadership for yourself in the context
of others?

During my time as the administrative designee, I learned the importance of command

presence. I need to assert myself as the powerful force to maintain control. I also learned
the importance of listening to the students point of view. I found that many times the
students come with lots of baggage that effect how they interact with others but by taking the
time to listen and show compassion to them we can begin to break down these walls that
they have set up. After hearing them, I like to offer suggestions for their future. The hope is
that a few words that I say to them will impact their future in a positive way.

I also learned that it is important to maintain documentation of student discipline. We can set
up a history and see patterns in student behavior. Through documentation, we are able to
apply necessary interventions able through PBIS. Further, communication is vital. Involving
all necessary parties aids in the extinction of behavior. Often a student that acts out is doing
so in more than one class through documentation through the Aeries system teachers are
able to see the issues the student is having in other classes. What I find most important
about this process is the discipline piece. As a team, it is important to see what has been
done and what the outcome was after the discipline.

Through my research on anti-bullying, I learned the importance of sharing this information.

My initial goal was simply to conduct research, but the information is so vital that it needs to
be shared with the students, teachers, staff and parents. I have found that bullying is far
more common that I know. There are many resources available; the key is making this
information available to the students. The information and support need to be available in a
non-threatening way. This is what prompted me to form a club. I want students to feel
supported by staff and by a community of other students. Further, with time I believe we will
see a decrease of certain discipline issues through creating an atmosphere of anti-bullying.

Administrative Designee Log

1/11/2017- I spent two hours as Administrative Designee. During this time I was the designee
on two different IEP meetings. I maintain notes for the IEP. I also added to the IEP by
offering recommendations for accommodations and services and are available on the school
site.

1/12/2017- I spent three hours as Administrative Designee. Three of the assistance

principles were off campus for district training. I was able to fill in in their absence. I had
three discipline incidents during this time. One incident the student was suspended for
behavior issues. The other two incidents resulted in on campus suspension for one period.

1/18/2017- I served one hour as designee on an IEP meeting. This was a Triennial IEP and
all team members provided necessary assessments to the IEP. The students services
remained the same.

1/23/2017- I served as one of the administrators during student attendance meetings. The
students involved all had excessive absences. The parents and district personnel were
involved in the meetings.
