RISING INTELLIGENTSIA (JUNIORS)

This is a 2 round event; each team will consist of 2 participants.

ROUND 1
Rules
Topics will be given at least 5 days prior to the event.
Each team will comprise two speakers- one For and one Against.
The speakers For and Against the motion will get a maximum of 3 minutes to
present their argument. A warning bell will be sounded at the end of 21/2 minutes.
Failure to adhere the given timings could invite a negative mark.
The speakers will have to face an Active Rebuttal wherein they will have to face
questions offered by their opponents through the chairperson. No direct arguments
are encouraged. One team will be allowed to ask one question only. No-cross
questioning will be permitted. In case no question is asked of a speaker, he will be
awarded full marks.
Individuals are not allowed to ask questions to their own team members.
Since it is a prepared debate, participants will be penalized if they resort to reading
out from a script.
The decision of the judges shall be final and binding.
Top teams will move to Round 2.

ROUND 2
Rules
Topics will be given after Round 1.
The teams will be given a side each, the sides being Opposition and Proposition. Team
positions and pairing will be done on the day of the debate.
Each team will comprise two speakers- Opening Speaker/Closing Speaker, Constructive
Speaker. The debate timings and flow will be in this order:
o Opening Proposition: 2 minutes
o Opening Opposition: 2 minutes
o Constructive Proposition: 4 minutes
o Constructive Opposition: 4 minutes


o Closing Proposition: 2 minutes
o Closing Opposition: 2 minutes
