PROCEDURE:
1. The equipment computer will be located in the control van. It will output
RS232 data to communicate with the ROVNAV bottle. Since RS232 cannot
communicate over long distances (usually not over 100ft,) it will need to be
converted to RS485 protocol to be carried to the winch Prizm unit. Note: Some
systems can send RS232 directly to the winch Prizm unit. This is because their
deck lead is short enough, which eliminates the need for a topside Dual 485 Bd.
2. A 422 OCINT can be mounted in the PDU in such a place that a DB9 to
DB25 cable may be connected to it and the equipment computer mentioned in
the previous step. An additional +15vdc Calex Power Supply will also need to be
mounted to power up the line driver. AC power (for the Calex) may be taken
from the PDU Weidmuller pins 88 & 89.
3. Once the line driver and power supply are mounted, remove TWP #3
(40,41,42) from the left side of the PDU Weidmuller block. Connect a length of
TWP cable between the line driver's 485 output and the left side of the terminal
block. Use the table below as a guide.
4. From the right side of the PDU Weidmuller, TWP #3 connects via the deck
leads to the winch stationary J-box 7,8,9. Through the slips rings 49,50,51 and
on to the winch rotating J-box TB-7 = Shield, TB-8 = Black, TB-9 = Red.
5. TWP #3 is a spare, it usually stops in winch rotating J-Box and does not carry
on through the umbilical. If it is connected through the umbilical, disconnect the
umbilical side and tape off conductors. Another length of TWP cable will have to
be "fished" through the conduit between the J-box and the FO box. Terminate
one end to the Rotating J-box and the other end to the Channel B 6-pin Phoenix
connector that goes to the Prizm Dual 485 Bd. NOTE: This cable will also have
to be "fished" through the Prizm backplane the same as TWP #1 before attaching
to the Channel B Phoenix connector.
Use the table below as a guide.
6. Unplug the Dual 485 Bd Phoenix Conn. #2. This connector will already have
a TWP cable connected to it (telemetry.) Following this cable back you'll find it
connected to the Data Switch Bd. Remove the Data Switch Bd and unplug
J13 & J14. (Two 8-pin Phoenix connectors.)
7. Remove the Dual 485 Boards from both the winch FO J-box and the cage FO
can. Check the jumper settings IAW the settings listed for Channel B. If
telemetry is being transmitted on Channel A, do not change the jumper settings
for this channel.
8. Connect another short piece of TWP cable between the Dual 485 Bd
connector #2 and the Data Switch connectors J13 & J14. Use the table below as
a guide. This will be your ROVNAV RS232 signal from the Dual 485 Bd to be
transmitted on Data Switch channel 2.
9. Reinstall the Data Switch card and plug in all connectors removed. Note:
Sometimes the Dual 485 Bd will be very close to the Data Switch Bd. This will
cause a problem with sliding the TWP wires across the bottom of the PCB due to
the component pins sticking up. Place a flat piece of plastic or paper on the Dual
485 PCB before installing the Data Switch Bd and then pull it out after you get
the card in.
10. Ty-wrap all cables neatly and securely so they don't flop around in the FO
box when the winch is turning. This completes the topside portion of the wiring
procedure.
11. Open the cage FO can and inspect for the following:
a) Is there a Dual 485 card installed in the Prizm rack?
b) If a Dual 485 card is installed, is it plugged into a backplane?
c) If there is no Dual 485 card installed, is there one available in the
system spares?
If there is a Dual 485 card available, then go to step 16 of this procedure.
If no Dual 485 can be located, then proceed with the next step.
12. This step is written in the event no Dual 485 card is installed in the Prizm
rack, and there is none available as a spare. A 422 OCINT board (line driver)
will have to be installed in the cage FO can. Since our data coming out of the
Data Switch channel 2 is RS232 protocol, it will have to be converted to RS485
to be transmitted down the tether. Mount the 422 OCINT line driver securely in
the cage FO can as not to move around or short out.
13. Using a short piece of TWP cable, wire the RS232 side of the OCINT line
driver to the Prizm Data Switch Bd using the table below as a reference.
14. Using a short piece of TWP cable, wire the RS485 side of the newly mounted
OCINT line driver to the FO can Weidmuller termination block. Use the following
table as a reference.
15. Connect +12VDC board power to the OCINT line driver from the FO can
Weidmuller pin-30 = +12vdc and pin-32 = common.
16. This step is written in the event a Dual 485 card is installed in the Prizm card
rack, and is plugged into a backplane. Using the table below, make the wiring
connections between the cage Prizm Data Switch Bd and the Dual 485 Bd.
Prizm Data Switch Card TWP Dual 485 Bd. 6 pin Conn. #2
J14 or J13 - Grd Shield Pin 10 - RS232 Shield Ch. B
J13 Channel 2 out Black Pin 11 - RS232 RX Ch. B
J14 Channel 2 in Red Pin 12 - RS232 TX Ch. B
17. Using the table below, make the wiring connections between the cage Dual
485 Bd 6-pin Conn. #3 and the FO can Weidmuller term block.
19. TWP #3 can be traced from the Cage FO can to the Vehicle Telemetry can
where it ends at Weidmuller pins 93,94,95. See attached block diagrams for
actual pin-outs. The RS485 Signal coming into the vehicle telemetry can on
TWP #3 will need to be converted to RS232 protocol. Another 422 OCINT line
driver will have to been mounted in the telemetry can for this purpose.
20. Once the 422 OCINT line driver is securely mounted in the vehicle telemetry
can, make wiring connections between Weidmuller pins 93,94,95 and the RS485
side of the line driver using the table below as a reference.
21. Connect +12VDC board power to the OCINT line driver from the Vehicle
Telemetry can Weidmuller pin-22 = +12vdc and pin-34 = common.
22. A spare MSAJ - 9 - BCR (9-pin Impulse bulkhead connector) will need to be
installed on the vehicle telemetry can. Wiring connections between this bulkhead
connector and the RS232 side of the 422 OCINT line driver should be made
using the table below as a reference.
23. A spare +24vdc relay will also need to be mounted in the vehicle telemetry
can. Once the relay is mounted securely, use the table below to make wiring
connections. CTAG soft-switch "Resp" will provide +24vdc to the relay.
24. Make up a whip to connect to the Vehicle Telemetry can BCR connector
using the table below. Ensure whip is long enough to reach the RovNav
equipment. Use standard potting procedures for oil filled cables.
