VLF High Voltage Cable Testing Sets

Seba KMT solved this problem and developed a compact, lightweight cable testing device which offers the advantage of alternating
voltage. With an output voltage of 10kV and 0.1 Hz AC at 2.5 F, the Easytest 10 kV Cable Test Sets provides sufficient power to
test HV high voltage cables of more than 5km lengths at 0.1 Hz in the 10 kV range. A DC voltage module with leakage current
measurement is available for testing of PVC and PILC cables. The cable testing options are completed by a sheath testing function
and pulsed output voltage for sheath fault pinpointing.

SEBA KMT VLF cable testing sets identify weak or critical spots in low and high voltage cable systems including PVC, PE,
XLPE, PILC - voltages classes cover 3.3kV, 6.6kV, 11kV, 20kV and 33kV.

Quick and reliable high voltage cable testing after installing, cable jointing or repairing cables is vital for reliable electricity
distribution. Reconnecting the voltage without cable testing is a risk - a typically applied method is a five or ten minute DC cable test
in the operating voltage range. Either simple DC testers or insulation testers are used - however with maximum voltages of 10kV DC
cable testers seldom meet the operating voltage range.

It is an accepted fact that particularly for XLPE cables testing with DC voltage is useless. Furthermore, if the high voltage cables
are old it can even cause additional ageing or cable damage due to polarisation effects. DC voltage tests can only reveal the most
serious problems. Hidden problems cannot be detected leading to cable breakdowns during operation following the test.
