Dear Editor

My letter comes with great concern.

Do you know what its like to have a distressed child? A child that no longer
wants to attend school due to a so called wave that has swallowed the entire
ethos of the school, a school that used to be unified?

I am the mother of Laurie Saunders, a student at Gordon High School.

Recently in her history class, teacher Ben Ross implemented a regime called
The Wave to prove to students how regulations can be dictated and followed,
similar to Nazism and Hitlers power over the nation and its people. What
began as a lesson quickly evolved into something much greater, a social
movement where students feel pressured to join, respond and follow the
regime. I understand it encourages discipline and community, however what
seems to be occurring is neglect, prejudice and disunity. Laurie mentioned a
Jewish student was physically harassed because he refused to join The
Wave, how absurd!

I wish to seek advice on ways to stop The Wave- perhaps most effectively by
publicly exposing the issue. We are not Nazis, we are not subjective to
people based on their nationality, heritage or upbringing. Gordon High School
must be reminded that they are a school based on unity. I do not want my
daughter attending school with the fear she is not accepted given she does
not belong to The Wave and I vouch that this system must stop.

Regards
- Mrs Saunders
