Release highlights
The SIS License Server 2015 release contains critical security and stability updates. All SIS major software releases (starting with
2015.1) commercialized after April 2015 will require installation of SIS License Server 2015. This affects all SIS product lines with
the exception of the software utilizing the SPT license server. The SIS License Server 2015 is compatible with prior versions of SIS
license files and software versions. It is advised to upgrade the current SIS License Server to SIS License Server 2015.1 once it is
available to avoid unnecessary delays in uptake of new SIS software releases.

Platform support
The Schlumberger licensing server, with or without CodeMeter dongles, is supported on the following platforms:

Windows
Windows 7 64-bit
Windows 8.1 64-bit
Windows 10 64-bit
Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit
Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 64-bit

Linux
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server version 6 Update 3 or later (x86_64).

Platform support notes

Only command line utilities are available on Linux platforms, there is no GUI-based license configuration tool.
The Schlumberger licensing tool is not supported on any version of Windows Server. It is intended as a single user tool.
The Schlumberger license server is supported on virtual machines based on VMWare ESX 4.1 or 5 or Windows Hyper V 2008
R2, 2012 and 2012R2, or RHEV 3.4. The Virtual Machines must be running one of the Windows Server operating systems listed
above. If a dongle is required for licensing, the only supported way to connect the dongle to the Virtual Machine is using a Digi
Anywhere USB/14 device. Further details of the device can be found at http://www.digi.com/products/model?mid=3609. To
ensure reliability update the firmware on the device before using it with CodeMeter dongles.
When installing on Windows you may be prompted to reboot the machine. The license server and licensing tool will not work
properly if you do not reboot the computer.

Do not install multiple versions of the Schlumberger License Tool

If you have an old version of the license tool installed, please uninstall it before installing the new version.

Increasing security
We recommend that a firewall is run on the license server to increase security.

Windows
For Windows this should happen automatically when the server is first started. Firewall exceptions
Schlumberger Licensing User Guide for more information.

Linux
For Linux it is easiest to lock the license server to fixed ports, then open those ports in the firewall. To lock the server to fixed ports
first add a port number for lmgrd at the end of the line starting SERVER and add a different port to the end of the VENDOR line for
the vendor daemon. When picking a port ensure that an unused port is picked.

The ports can be opened in the firewall by running the iptables command. If a firewall other than iptables is in use, refer to your
Linux documentation.

This example uses the iptables command.

This license file tells the server to use ports 7321 and 7322. If the server is using multiple files, the same ports must be set
in every file.

Open the ports using iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 7321 -j ACCEPT and sudo

Mixing of MAC and CodeMeter licenses

Do not mix MAC and dongle licenses on the same server. It is not supported and various issues may be seen including problems with
server stability, performance and start up.

Start-up with many license files

If problems are seen when many license files are in use, refer to License server not starting up Schlumberger Licensing
User Guide.

Expired licenses
License files that contain expired licenses can cause problems when adding licenses or starting the server. If you experience issues
remove the expired license(s), then try to re-add the file or folder.

Quorum Server reread failures

We have seen an instance of a quorum license server failing occasionally at reread when the application was set to checkout a
license direct from the slbsls port. No problems have been seen when the main lmgrd port was in use, we therefore recommend
as a precaution that if a quorum is in use that only the main lmgrd port is used for communications.

Administrator rights
The License tool has limited functionality when run as a user with non-administrator rights. If run as an administrator then it is
capable of setting a configuration that a user with normal access rights cannot change. We therefore recommend that the tool is run
with Administrator rights. If used with non-administrator rights, ensure that you have sufficient access to perform the tasks you
require. Without using administrator rights the license server can only be configured as a process but not as a service. This means it
must be manually started up at each reboot, or after plugging in the dongle.

Linux
On Linux ensure that you have all the required libraries installed. The License Server requires the lsb packages. These can be
installed when logged in as root, with the command yum install lsb .
