When to use this strategy This strategy should be used daily, at the
beginning of the class, as well as the first day of
class to set up class rules and structure.
Step by step instruction- How to use this in a ELA) This strategy is to first develop a simple list of
classroom. You will partner with a classmate to classroom rules and expectations. Keep the list
teach them your strategy so be explicit and simple. For classroom rules keep the wording
provide a sample for your partner. short and simple to remember. Rules should be
introduced on and touched upon throughout the
year. Example list could look like:
-Do your best
-Respect one another
-Raise your hand

Additionally the strategy can be used at the


beginning of class to outline the days activities.
This can show the main points and shifts in
direction throughout the day, so students can
know what to expect. For example:
-Bell Work
-Interactive Notebooks
-Video Response
-Post Its!
