connection to the recorded events in History
1. The issuance of uniforms to the Philippine Army
Antonio Luna issued a standardized uniform for the Philippine Army since the uniforms issued by the Aguinaldo's government were only made from available materials at the time. The new uniforms which was officially formalized under the Decree of Nov. 25, 1898 were designed by Juan Luna, and were used during the Philippine-American War. 2. The moment when the Spaniards welcomed the American Army in Intramuros American forces would neither bombard the city nor allow the Filipinos to take part (the Spanish feared that the Filipinos were plotting to massacre them all). The Spanish, in turn, would put up only a show of resistance and, on a prearranged signal, would surrender. In this way, the governor would be spared the ignominy of giving up without a fight, and both sides would be spared casualties. The mock battle was staged on August 13. The attackers rushed in, and by afternoon the United States flag was flying over Intramuros, the ancient walled city that had been the seat of Spanish power for over 300 years. Spanish and Americans became partners that excluded the Filipinos. (Outbreak of War, 1898) 3. The debate about the intention of the Americans Pedro Paterno headed the cabinet. Paterno appointed 9 commissions, headed by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs Felipe Buencamino, to negotiate with the Americans. Luna was against this because he doesn't want to have any affairs with the Americans. He wants to fight for the independence of the country. 4. The shooting incident at Sta. Mesa The first shot made by Private William Grayson on February 4th 1899 (9pm) became the start of Filipino- American War. This happened in Sociego Street, Sta. Mesa, Manila. 5. The way how General Luna treated his (different types of) soldiers during the first battle scene General Luna was known as a strict disciplinarian, which made him rather popular among the soldiers he trained. 6. Captain Janolino's response to Gen. Luna He pulled out his bolo and slashed Luna across the head. 7. Aguinaldo's reaction upon discovering Luna's treatment upon his unruly soldiers 8. What do you think were the reasons that led to Aguinaldo's rise to power and Bonifacio's downfall? Bonifacio was Aguinaldo's opponent during the Tejeros convention. Even though he won against Bonifacio during the election, there were still some people who supports Bonifacio which hinders him to have a full power on the Philippine government. 9. One of the debates in history revolves around the assumptions that Emilio Aguinaldo was the person behind the death of Andres Bonifacio. Do you agree or disagree? I agree. This is because Bonifacio was trying to make a government that's different from Aguinaldo's. When Aguinaldo knew about this, he became furious and ordered his men to capture Bonifacio and his brothers. 10. What can you say about Aguinaldo's meeting with Mabini, Mascardo, Paterno, and Buencamino? Should this event tarnish the image of some of our heroes? Aguinaldo was too foolish to believe in his traitor friends. Because Luna was stopping them from doing what they want, they tried to convince Aguinaldo that Luna wanted to take over the presidency, and this rumors led to execution of Luna. He was brainwashed by 3 people: Mascardo, Paterno and Buencamino. 11. How would you describe the men and women who fought for reforms and revolution? How should they be remembered? They are brave enought to fight for their country's freedom and they should be remembered by listing them as part of the heroes/ people who fought for the country.
