A Multi-Purpose Dumpsite

Problem:

An existing Landfill facility somewhere in Sitio Kalangitan Capas, Tarlac inside CSEZ is operating
as a very effective landfill. Serving parts of Metro Manila and Tarlac. Our group was assigned to this said
existing project and came up with a problem we would like to resolve efficiently.

The said landfill is said to operate in the span of adequately 25 years but resiliency calls for a
longer period. Dumping waste with different levels of biodegradability altogether in the landfill residents
residing in nearby barangays are complaining about the stench the dumpsite emits. Our problem is to
integrate the landfill facility with processes and facilities that would meet the dumpsites purposes to
resolve the stench emission and have a more efficient, efficient, and resilient collection and recovering
of wastes.

Design objectives:

1. To design an alternative way of making energy and fuel from waste without the emission of
stench.
2. To design effective facilities for the betterment of the recovery of waste materials.
3. To design effective facilities for the proper segregation of municipal waste.
4. To create an accessible dumpsite facility serving multiple benefits for the residents of Capas and
our past proposed resettlement in Brgy. Sta. Juliana.
5. To design a dumpsite that will give more opportunities for the employment.
6. To design a green and eco-friendly system.

Design Considerations:

1. Workflow
2. Connection of plants to storages and generators in site.
3. Travel and distribution of produced energy and fuel.
4. Flammable emissions.
5. Laws and Guidelines
6. Amount of waste collection everyday.
7. Anaerobic digestion process.
8. Existing facilities.
9. Nearby residents.
10. Tropical wind paths.

Solution:

By including the process of biogas production also known as anaerobic digestion, we will create
a more efficient source of energy and fuel which will provide for the nearing residents. Biogas plants
traps gases with the proper design of equipment releasing no stench while it is undergoing digestion. It
takes shorter digestion and nothing in its process is wasted. It produces fuel, energy, and fertilizer as by
product. When properly treated it could be used for more than 25 years.
Supporting this facility is the recycling unit and the segregation process that will be included in
the integration of the site. Trees and vegetation would also be strategically placed in the site to
minimize stench being brought by the wind during the process of segregation of waste.
