3.

THE REFERENCE POINT TOOL

You can access the Reference Point tool by opening a 8 bit file (Disc Options / Open 8 bit
File).

This tool allows the user to :


- give geographic references to the Image file, before the geocoding procedure
- remove certain parts of a file (see the tool ).

Procedures
To position Reference points

1/ Open a 8 bit file (.ic1 or .img) (Disc Options / Open 8 bit File).

2/ Identify four corners which could be easily localised on the paper map. The most reliable
geocoding points are those located at the crossings of the lines.
3/ Select the tool by clicking (8 left button) directly over its icon.
The Conversion box opens :

4/ If a conversion is necessary, select (8 left button) in the Grid in and Grid out fields the
initial and final reference grid among those listed and validate via the OK button.
If no conversion is necessary, close the box via the Cancel button.
5/ The pointer takes the icon form :
6/ Click precisely over the first reference point.
7/ Indicate the co-ordinates of that point in the following dialogue box :

This box presents several fields and commands :

Validates the co-ordinates.
:
Removes a point.
:
Converts the co-ordinates

Closes the box without positioning the Reference point.
8/ Place the three other points in the same way.
Once the four geocoding points are placed, you can geocode the file.

Blank pad the file


1/ Open a 8 bit file (.ic1 or .img) (Disc Options / Open 8 bit File).
2/ Select the tool by clicking (8 left button) directly over its icon.
The Conversion box opens :

3/ Ignore this box which is not useful for this operation by clicking over the Cancel button.

The pointer takes the icon form :
4/ Click over the first point (a)

Area to remove (up)

The dialogue box opens :

5/ Ignore this box which is not useful for this operation by clicking over the Cancel button.
6/ Click over the second point (b).
Ignore again the dialogue box which opens by clicking over the Cancel button.
7/ Select the tool by clicking (8 left button) directly over its icon.
A window invites you to indicate the side to remove (Up, Left, Right, Down) :

8/ Validate and run the blank pad via the OK button.


The status bar informs you of the process status.
Once the operation achieved, the zone to remove is coloured in black and the following
message box opens :

9/ Close the box via the OK button. The removed zone of the file is filled with 0 values.
