It was a PA day and all teachers were expected to attend a
meeting. My field supervisor and I discussed that I could label
the materials in the classroom so the children can learn to be
familiar with all of them.
Labelling Materials
I will create labels for all of the materials in the classroom so
that the children can learn what everything is and where
everything goes. They can also start to learn the spelling of the
words and become familiar with the words.
Objectives
1. Children will be able to (Belonging and Contributing:
22.1) communicate their ideas about something as they
begin to familiarize themselves with the words on the
labels, and connect them to their own idea of the words
(The Kindergarten Program, 2016, pg.137).
2. Children will (Demonstrating Literacy and Math
Behaviours: 9.1) use reading behavior to make sense of
familiar and unfamiliar texts in print, as they connect
the label with the actual object. For example: they may
know that the fridge is a fridge, but they may not know
the word, so they will use the fridge to understand the
unfamiliar word (The Kindergarten Program, 2016,
pg.197).
3. Children will (Demonstrating Literacy and Math
Behaviours: 10.4) use classroom resources to support
their writing, through learning the words on the label
and using them within their own writing practices. For
 example, they can look at the label book, and learn
how the spell the word (The Kindergarten Program,
2016, pg.202).
