Background: The report of MGDs (2015) showed that the AKI ( Maternal Mortality Rate) was
210/100.000 KH ( Living birth). The selection of birth attendant is nesessary to decrease the
maternality rate. It is resevealed that the rate rose from 228/100.00 KH ( SDKI, 2007) to 359/100.00
KH ( SDKI,2012). The profile of Health Department in Kalimantan Barat Province (2015) presented
that there was 141/100.000 KH out of 130 cases. In the meantime, the profile of Health Department in
Sanggau Regency (2014) reported 17 deaths included in the maternal mortality rate in a year. The
birth helped by the health workers in Sanggau Regency (2014) was 88,2%. The birth help in the
health facility is not principally recorded, but the number of birth helped by the health workers is
85,84% and by the non-health workers is 14,26%. Referring to the pregnant women who lack of
knowledge and have educational background of primary school in average, it is estimated that the
birth help in the health facility is only around 48%.
General Objective: This research aims at finding out the correlation between the knowledge of
pregnant women about the signs of risky birth and the selection of labor attendant in the area of
Puskesmas Sosok in Sanggau regency.
Methodology: This is an analytical survey research with a cross sectional approach. It involves forty-
three samples and the data analysis uses frequency distribution and chi-square test.
Result: The knowledge frequency distribution based on the mean value (53,3) reveals that the
pregnant women knowledge about the signs of risky birth is mostly in the category of insufficient.
The frequency distribution in selecting the health worker as the labor attendant shows that the
pregnant women prefer the help of midwivies. The chi-square test analysis presented the significant
correlation between the knowledge about the signs of risky birth with the selection of labor attendant
with the value and p-value=0,018 < 0,05, which means that the hypothesis test is significant and thus,
Ho is rejected.
Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between the knowledge about the signs of risky birth
and the selection of the labor attendant.

Key words: the selection of labor attendant, knowledge, pregnant woman.
