Introduction
Safety and application instructions
Before you start with the installation of the frequency inverter / servo
drive, please read this manual carefully and pay special attention to the
notes and suggestions.

This manual contains:

? safety and warning instructions
? installation instructions that conform with EMC
? explanation of the EG directive / CE mark
? sticker to fasten onto the inverter / servo controller

This manual must be made available to every user. Before working with
the unit the user must become familiar with it. This especially applies to
the knowledge and observance of the following safety and warning
indications.
The pictograms used here have the following meaning:

Is used when the life or health of the user is in danger or considerable

damage to property can occur.

Is used when a measure is necessary for safe and disturbance free

operation.

General safety instructions

The directions in this chapter must be absolutely observed for the
following reasons:
? Safety for people and machines
? Function and susceptibility to faults
? Technical inspectorate acceptance and certification
? Guarantee and warranties

Mortal Danger Inverters / servo drives contain dangerous voltages which can cause
death or serious injury. During the operation and depending on the type
of protection, they can have live, right, possibly also mobile parts as
well as hot surfaces. Care should be taken to ensure correct and safe
operation to minimise risk to personnel and equipment. Danger to Life.

Only qualified electrical ? All work from the transport, to installation and start-up as well as
technical personnel maintenance may only be done by qualified personnel (IEC 364
and/or CENELEC HD 384 and IEC-Report 664 and note national
safety regulations). According to this manual qualified staff means:

? those who are able to recognise and judge the possible dangers
based on their technical training and experience

? those with knowledge of the relevant standards and who are familiar
with the field of power transmission (VDE 0100, EN 50178, EN
60204 as well as the appropriate regulations for your area).

KEB F5
Technical manual

Use as directed
Frequency inverters / servo drives are drive components which are
intended for installation into electrical systems or machines. They serve
exclusively for stepless speed regulation / control of three-phase
asynchronous / permanent magnet motors. Use for other purpose is not
recommended and may lead to equipment damage.

Observe standards The inverter / servo drive must not be started until it is determined that
the installation complies with 89/392/EEC (machine directive) as well
as the EMC-directive (89/336/ EEC)(note EN60204).
The frequency inverters / servo drives meet the requirements of the
Low-Voltage Directive 73/231/EEC. The harmonized standards of the
series EN 50178 in connection with EN 60439-1 and EN 60146 were
used. This is a product of limited availability in accordance with IEC
61800-3. This product may cause radio interference in residential
areas. In this case the operator may need to take corresponding
measures.

Protect against accidential Inverters / servo drives must be protected against physical damage
contact during transport, installation and use. Components and covers must not
be bent or moved as this may affect insulation distances. The units
contain electrostatically endangered components which can be
destroyed by inappropriate handling. For that reason the contact of
electronic components and contacts is to be avoided. The equipment
must not be switched on if it is damaged as it may no longer comply
with mandatory standards. Make sure that during installation there is
enough minimum clearance and enough cooling. Climatic conditions
must be observed in accordance with EN 50178.

5
KEB F5
Technical manual

Electrical connection
? Stationarily install and earth frequency inverters / servo drives.
? Maintain minimum spaces to surrounding elements when setting up
(see Installation of the Switch Cabinet in the Technical
Documentation Part 2)
? Rack devices are designed for vertical installation and can be placed
one next to the other.
? Maintain a minimum space of 50mm to previous elements. Ensure
sufficient cooling.
? In regulated systems use original KEB cables as motor and
transmitter cables only.
? The device must not be permeated by mist or water.
? Avoid dust permeating the device. Allow for sufficient heat dissipation
if installed in a
? Dust-proof housing.
? Do not operate the frequency inverter / servo drive in explosion-proof
spaces!
? Install the frequency inverter / servo drive in an appropriate housing
in accordance
? With the local regulations when operating it in explosion-proof
spaces.
? Protect the frequency inverter / servo drive against conductive and
aggressive gases and liquids.

Note capacitor discharge time Before any installation and connection work, the system must be
switched off and secured. After clearing the frequency inverter / servo
drive the intermediate circuit capacitors are still charged with high
voltage for a short period of time. The unit can be worked on again,
after it has been switched off for 5 minutes.

Control lines With frequency inverters / servo drives that are not isolated from the
supply circuit (EN 50178) all control lines must be included in other
protective measures (e.g. double insulation or shielded, earthed and
insulated). Further information is found in the technical documentation
part 3.

Voltage with respect to ground Connection of the frequency inverter / servo drive is only permissible on
symmetrical networks with a maximum line voltage (L1, L2, L3) with
respect to earth (N/PE) of 300V. An isolating transformer must be used
for supply networks which exceed this value! The units may be
damaged if this is not observed.

Only fixed connection The frequency inverter / servo drives are designed for fixed connection
only as discharge currents of > 3.5 mA may occur especially when
using EMI filters. It is therefore necessary to lay a protective conductor
with a section of at least 10mm (copper) or a second protective
conductor in compliance with EN 50178. Ground point to point with the
shortest connection possible to mains earth (avoid earth loops).

Voltage peaks When using IGBT inverters, high voltage peaks may arise in the motor
due to the switching action of the inverter output devices. These
voltage peaks may damage the insulation of the motor winding and
must be taken into account when using motor cables longer than 15m
with high frequency motors. In this case, the motor can be protected
with a motor choke, dv/dt filter or sine filter.

6
KEB F5
Technical manual

Insolation measurement When doing an insulation measurement in accordance with VDE 0100 /
Part 620, the power semiconductor of the unit and existing radio
interference filters must be disconnected because of the danger of
destruction. This is permissible in compliance with the standard, since
all inverters are given a high voltage test in the end control at KEB in
accordance with EN 50178.

Different earth potentials When using components without isolated inputs / outputs, it is
necessary that equipotential bonding exists between the components
to be connected (e.g. through the equalizer). Disregard can cause
destruction of the components by the equalizing currents.

Prevent disturbances ? A trouble-free and safe operation of the frequency inverter / servo
drive is only guaranteed when the connection instructions below
are strictly followed. Incorrect operation or damage may result from
incorrect installation.
? Note mains voltage and rated motor voltage.
? Do not swap around mains and motor lines.
? Install power cables and control cables separately (>15 cm
separation).
? Use shielded / twisted control lines. Connect shield to PE at inverter
only.
? Only use suitable circuit elements to control the logic and analogue
inputs, whose contacts are rated for extra-low voltages.
? Make sure inverter and motor housing are well grounded. The screen
of the power cable must be directly and securely attached to both
the inverter PE terminal and the motor ground terminal. Remove
paint finish where necessary.
? Connect the braking module / braking resistor with shielded / twisted
cables (install shield on one side of the inverter).
? Ground the cabinet or the system earth star point with the shortest
connection to mains earth (avoid earth loops).

RCD FI protection switch If personnel protection is required during installation of the system the
frequency inverters must be protected according to EN 50178:
1-phase inverters by RCD type A (pulse-current sensitive FIs) or type
B (all-current sensitive FIs).
3-phase inverters (with B6 bridge-connected rectifier) by RCMAs with
separation used privileged) or RCDs type B (all-current sensitive FIs)
The tripping current should be 300mA or more, in order to avoid a
premature triggering of the inverter by discharge currents (about
200mA). Dependent on the load, the length of the motor cable and the
use of a radio interference filter, substantially higher leakage current
can occur. The connection instructions from the manufacturer and the
valid local requirements must be observed. Dependent on the available
mains form (TN, IT, TT) further protective measures are necessary in
accordance with VDE Part 410 (Part 4; Chapter 41). For example, with
TN mains this protection is made with overcurrent protective devices.
With IT-mains it is insulation monitoring with a pulse-code measuring
method. A protective separation can be used with all mains forms as
long as the required power and cable lengths permit this. The person
setting up the unit must present proof of compatibility before installing
the inverter!

7
KEB F5
Technical manual

Operating instructions
Before putting the unit into operation, check terminals and screw
connections for tight fit and put back all pertaining covers.

Automatic restart Inverters/servo drives may be set, dependent on type, to restart

automatically following a fault stoppage (e.g. Undervoltage Error), when
the fault conditions clear. System design must take this into account, if
appropriate, and additional monitoring or protective features added
where necessary.

Conditionally short circuit The frequency inverters / servo drives are conditionally short-circuit
proof proof (EN 50178). After resetting the internal protection devices, the
function as directed is guaranteed.

Exceptions:
? If an earth-leakage fault or short-circuit often occurs at the output, this
can lead to a defect in the unit.
? If a short-circuit occurs during regenerative operation (2nd or 4th
quadrant, feedback into the intermediate circuit), this can lead to a
defect in the unit.

EMC fundamentals
General
Frequency inverters / servo drives represent electrical equipment
designed for use in industrial and commercial units. In accordance with
the EMC directive 89/336/EEC, it is not obligatory to mark these
devices as they represent components to be further processed by the
respective machine and unit manufacturer and are not operable
independently according to the EMC directive. The person installing /
operating the machine / unit is obliged to prove the protective
measures demanded by the EMC directive are complied with. The
prescribed ratings can usually be complied with when using the radio
interference voltage filters specified by KEB, and when observing the
following measures and installation guidelines. The KEB frequency
inverter / servo drive is designed to be used in the second environment
as defined in EN 61800-3 (unit with its own supply transformer). Take
additional measures when using it in the first environment (residential
commercial area connected to public low-voltage mains)!

Installation
? Install the cabinet or system correctly.
? To avoid coupled-in noise, separate
mains / supply lines
motor lines from inverters / servo actuator
control and data lines (low-voltage level < 48V)
and leave a space of at least 15 cm between them when installing.
? In order to maintain low-resistance high frequency connections,
earthing and shielding, as well as other metallic connections (e.g.
mounting plate, installed units) must be in metal-to-metal contact
with the mounting plate, over as large an area as possible. Use
earthing and equipotential lines with a section as large as possible
(min. 10mm2) or use thick earthing strips.
? Only use shielded cable with copper or tin-plated braid, since steel
braid is not suitable for high frequency ranges. The screen must
always be installed on the compensating rail and fastened with
clips or guided through the wall of the housing with metal screw
connections. Do not elongate the screen end (pigtails) with
individual conductors!
? If external interference suppression filters are used, then these must
be installed as close as possible to (<30cm from) the interference
source and in metal-to-metal contact with the mounting plate, over
as large an area as possible.
? Always equip inductive control elements (contactors, relays etc.) with
suppressors such as varistors, RC-elements or damping diodes.
? All connections must be kept as short as possible and as close as
possible to the earth, as free floating lines work as active and
passive aerials.
? Keep connection cables straight (do not bundle). Install a non-
assigned wire on both sides of the protective conductor.
The flow and return circuit must be twisted when the lines are not
shielded, in order to dampen common-mode noise.

Further information is found in the instruction manual part 2/3.

Control cabinet installation

DC-supply
The DC input current of the inverter is basically determined by the
used motor. The data can be taken from the motor name plate.

The DC input peak current is determined by the operating range:

If you accelerate on the hardware current limit, the short-time limit
current of the inverter must be used in the formula above (instead of
the rated motor current).
If the motor in normal operation is never stressed with rated torque, it
can be calculated with the real motor current.
A good practice value corresponds approx. to 1,5-times of the rated
motor current (from 90kW 1,25-times)

V exists between the controls. The internal resistance is reduced to
30k.

24
KEB F5
Technical manual

Voltage input external power supply

The supply of the control circuit through an external voltage source
keeps the control in operational condition even if the power stage is
switched off. To prevent undefined conditions at external power supply
the basic procedure is to first switch on the power supply and after that
the inverter.

Digital outputs

Relay output

?
In case of inductive load on the relay outputs a protective wiring must
be provided (e.g. free-wheeling diode)!

Analogue outputs

Voltage output
The voltage output serves for the setting of the digital inputs as well as
for the supply of external control elements. Do no exceed the maximum
? output current of 100 mA.

Installation, connection and operation

Introduction
As an accessory to the local or external (option: cable 00.F5.0C0-1xxx)
operation an operator is necessary. To prevent malfunctions, the
inverter must be brought into nOP status before connecting /
disconnecting the operator (open control release terminal). When
starting the inverter, it is started with the last stored values or factory
setting. Digital Operator Standard: Part No. 00.F5.060-1000
Interface Operator with serial Interface: Part No. 00.F5.060-2000

Interface
Only use the operator interface for the serial data transfer to
RS232/485. The direct connection, PC to the inverter is only valid with
a special cable (HSP5 Part No. 00.F5.0C0-0001), otherwise, it would
lead to the destruction of the PC interface.

that the adjusted value is accepted immediately . In these cases
(CP.28,
CP.32, CP.33, CP.34) the adjusted value is accepted an stored non-
volatile
by pressing ENTER.
If a malfunction occurs during operation, then the actual display is
overwritten by the alarm message. The alarm message in the display is
reset by ENTER.

? With ENTER only the error message in the display is reset. In the
inverter status display (CP.3) the error is still displayed. In order to
reset the error itself, the cause must be removed or a power-on
reset must be made.

Parameter summary

1) Enter-Parameter
2) depending on size (see 3.7 "Factory Settings")

? Due to the calculation / measuring accuracies, tolerances with the

current and torque displays as well as with the switching levels and
limitations, must be taken into consideration. The given tolerances
(see
parameter description) refer to the respective maximum values with the
dimensioning KEB COMBIVERT: Motor = 1:1.

Dependent on the data from the motor manufacturer, larger

tolerances at the torque displays are possible, due to the usual
variations in the machine parameters and temperature drifts.

Description of the parameters

Corner frequency CP.1
With the frequency set by this parameter, the inverter reaches its
maximum output voltage. The rated motor frequency is the typical
setting here. Please note: A wrong corner frequency may overheat the
motors!

Setting range: 0...400 Hz

Resolution: 0.0125 Hz
Customer setting: _______ Hz

Minimal frequency CP.2

Frequency at which the inverter operates when no analogue command
value is given. Internal limitation of the fixed frequencies CP.7...CP.9.

Setting range: 0.0...400 Hz

Resolution: 0.0125 Hz
Customer setting: _______ Hz

Maximum frequency CP.3

Frequency at which the inverter operates when a maximum analogue
command value is given. Internal limitation of the fixed frequencies
CP.7...CP.9.
Setting range: 0.0...400 Hz
Resolution: 0.0125 Hz
Customer setting: _______ Hz

Absolute maximum frequency CP.4

The absolute maximum frequency has two functions. Limiting the
output frequency of the inverter, i.e. no frequency > CP.4 is transmitted.
Limiting the command values which are transferred to the ramp
generator. This allows the pitch of the frequency / analogue signal
graph to be set.
Setting range: 0.0...400 Hz
Resolution: 0.0125 Hz
Customer setting: _______ Hz

Acceleration time, right, CP.5

Acceleration time, right,
The parameter lays down the time required to accelerate from 0 to 100
Hz. In this process, the actual acceleration time is proportional to the
change in frequency.
delta f
---------- x CP.5 = tat. Acceleration time
100 Hz

Setting range: 0.01...300 s

Resolution: 0.01 s
Customer setting: _______ s
Example: CP. 5 = 10 s ; the drive shall accelerate from 10 Hz to 60 Hz
delta f = 60 Hz - 10 Hz = 50 Hz
Actual acceleration time = (50 Hz / 100 Hz) x 10s = 5s

KEB F5
Technical manual

Deceleration time CP.6

Deceleration time
The parameter lays down the time required to decelerate from 100 to 0
Hz. In this process, the actual deceleration time is proportional to the
change in frequency.
delta f
---------- x CP.6 = actual deceleration time
100 Hz

Setting range: -1; 0.00...300 s

Resolution: 0.01 s
Customer setting: _______ s

If the parameter is set to "-1", the deceleration time will be equal to the
value set by CP.5.

Example: CP. 6 = 10 s ; the drive shall decelerate from 60 Hz to 10 Hz

delta f = 60 Hz - 10 Hz = 50 Hz

Actual deceleration time = (50 Hz / 100 Hz) x 10s = 5 s

Fixed frequencies 1..3 Three fixed frequencies can be set. The fixed frequencies are selected
through terminals X2A.10 und X2A.11.
Terminal X2A.10
Setting range: 0.0...400 Hz
Resolution: 0.0125 Hz
Customer setting 1: _______ Hz
Customer setting 2: _______ Hz
Customer setting 3: _______ Hz

Terminal X2A.11
If values are entered which are beyond the limits laid down by CP. 9
and CP.10, the frequency will be limited internally.

Terminals X2A.10+X2A.11

Boost CP.10
In the low speed range, a large proportion of the motor voltage drops
across the resistance of the stator. In order to keep the motor torque
almost constant throughout the entire speed range, the boost
parameter can be used to compensate for the voltage drop.

Setting range: 0...25.5 %

Resolution: 0.1 %
Customer setting: _______ %

Setting: - Determine the load at idle speed and corner frequency

- Preselect approx. 10 Hz and set the boost so that
approx. the same load is reached as with the corner
frequency.
? If excessive voltage is applied to a motor running at slow speed in
continuous operation, this can cause the motor to overheat.

DC braking CP.11
With DC braking, the motor does not slow down via the ramp. The rapid
deceleration occurs by applying a D.C. voltage to the ends of the motor
winding. This parameter lays down how DC braking is triggered.

Value Activation
0 DC braking switched off
1 DC braking when the sense of rotation is switched off and 0 Hz
is reached. Braking time depends on CP.12 or until the next
time a sense of rotation is given.
2 DC braking as soon as no sense of rotation is given.
Braking time depends on actual frequency.
3 DC braking as soon as the sense of rotation changes.
Braking time depends on actual frequency.
4 DC braking when the sense of rotation is switched off and
the actual frequency is less than 4 Hz.
5 DC braking, when the actual frequency is less than 4 Hz
6 DC braking when the command value is less than 4 Hz.
7 spare

Electronic motor protection CP.14

The frequency inverters of the F4 series allow electronic emulation of a
thermal device for motor overload protection. The rated motor current is
used to set the tripping times. The typical tripping times are laid down
as per VDE 0660 Part 104 i.e. :

2 hours for 1.2 times the rated current

2 minutes for 1.5 rated current times
1 minute for 2.0 times the rated current
5 seconds for 8.0 times the rated current times

These times are related to the rated motor speeds and external cooling.
When internal cooling is employed, the tripping time is reduced as a
function of the motor speed (output frequency). For an output frequency
of 0 Hz, the tripping time is only 50%. The tripping characteristic has
been set for motors with internal cooling. CP.14 can be used to
program the response in case of tripping.

1 Rapid stop; modulation off; no automatic restart
2 Rapid stop; modulation an; no automatic restart
3 Modulation OFF; automatic restart
4 Rapid stop; modulation OFF; automatic restart
5 Rapid stop; modulation ON; automatic restart
6 Only warning via digital output; when the tripping threshold is
reached, the motor overload protection tripping condition is set
to 1.

Supply OFF, CP.15 mode

The supply OFF function has the task to allow for a guided
deceleration of the drive down to zero speed in the event of
undervoltage (e.g. due to a failure of the power supply). In this process,
the kinetic energy of the rotating drive is used to back up the
intermediate circuit voltage of the inverter. This keeps the inverter
operating and enables it to slow the drive down in a controlled manner.
CP.15 activates the function and defines various options according to
the table below. In CP.15, the sum of the individual values has to be
entered (default setting: 334). To switch the function on, set the value
to 335.

Power off, optimisation CP 16

In order to be able to adapt the drive to the individual application,
CP.16 can be used to set the proportional coupling factor of the
intermediate circuit voltage regulator. In most cases, the default setting
will work. Should the motor, however, over-swing or tumble, the value
needs to be reduced.

Maximum load for drive ready message on door

machines CP.19
Here, the slip of the motor is monitored through the inverter load. If the
slip exceeds the preset value, the drive ready message will be
deactivated (only if the drive ready message has been enabled for
door machines in CP.17 ="4").

The load value has to be set to a value that is 30 % less than the max.
admissible % value for the individual inverter size, so that the activation
of the hardware current limitation (inverter protection only, while
accepting breaks in torques when the current limit is reached) is
activated only for inverter protection and not when the motor tumbles.
That is, 170 % should be set for housing sizes B, D and E; 120 % for G
and H. The default value is 120 %.

Actual frequency display CP.21

Displays the current output frequency in Hz. The sense of rotation of
the drive is expressed by the sign.

Examples:

Output frequency 18.3 Hz, rotation forward.

Output frequency 18.3 Hz, rotation reverse.

Command frequency display CP.22

Displays the current command frequency in Hz. The sense of rotation
of the drive is expressed by the sign.

Examples:

Output frequency 18.3 Hz, rotation forward.

Output frequency 18.3 Hz, rotation reverse.

Should no sense of rotation be selected, the command value is

displayed which would result from right hand rotation. This enables the
preset command value to be checked before the sense of rotation is
enabled. Hence, at LS or noP, the value of CP.22 does not correspond
with the internal command value, which is of course 0 for LS or noP.

Current load CP.23

Displays the current inverter load expressed in percent. 100% load
corresponds with the rated inverter current. Only positive values are
displayed, i.e. no difference is made between motor and generator
operation.

Output voltage CP.24

Displays the current output voltage in volts.

IMA version number CP.35

Displays the version number for the download file.

10: corresponds to IMAgru15 Version 1.0

Current parameter set CP.36

Displays the current set of parameters.

0: Standard set
1: 87 Hz characteristic
2: 200 Hz motors
3: 300 Hz motors

Error diagnosis
Introduction
At KEB COMBIVERT error messages are always represented with an
E. and the appropriate error in the display. Error messages cause the
immediate deactivation of the modulation. Restart possible only after
reset.
Malfunctions are represented with an A. and the appropriate
message. Reactions to malfunctions can vary.
In the following the display and their cause are described.
