It is correctly said that Competition till the time it remains healthy is always

leads to marvelous results and is fruitful. Hence, I would negate the claim to a
good extent that to prapare people for leadership in various trades like
goveenment, industry or other fields, they require to inculcate the cooperation in
them completely instead of competition. As competition is always a key of
motivation for people to perform oustandingly than other people but one should
always make sure the competition at no point of time should cross its boundary and
hence it should be ethical and healthy competition only.
According to Darwin's theory of evolution of life: those who are stronger animals,
are able to survive by competing among other animals. This competition is required
for the survival. This is the basic law of nature : survival of the
fittest.Similarly; if we see in our life, we have to compete with each other not
because we like to have a competition but for the fact that there are other to
supersede or rum over us if we do not attempt to compete with them. Humorously
saying; one would rather die out of hunger if he/she does not compete.

Right from birth, competition for us is necessity. For instance, in India to get
admissions even in pre-nursery schools at the mere age of 4 years, the teachers
take interviews of the kids and the irony is - kids, who are sitting for the
interviews, do not even realised theat they have been welcomed to this modern age
of competition. Those kids who out of naiveness are not able to recite a poem and
tell them the countings, does not get admissions in good schools. Similarly, one
have to compete for taking admissions in good colleges. Even GRE is conducted to
let people compete among themselves and hence colleges can gauge the potential of
the people applying.

Similarly competition is their in the corporate world as well and that too, to an
another level itself. In corporate world competition is neck to neck. One worng
decision taken by the leadership can lead to tremendous losses and loss of market
share. For instance, the KFC has decided to open their chains of restauarnt just
opposite to Mc Donald with the intention of breakign their market and hence gaining
the market share.

However saying all this I would not deny that if competition is required for
survival, cooperation is also required making a better leaders.

Cooperation helps, for instance, within team to grow together. Without cooperation
one can not perform within team and hence team work is impossible. Cooperation also
help less trained team mates to learn and grow from their seniors or peers. Thus
cooperation is also an essence of a leaderhsip quality.

Hence I would say a leader would not be truely a leader without having the
qualities of a healthy competion and a good cooperation.It is always a competitive
and cooperative team who have been successful so far and would be always.
