MEDITATION AND COGNITIVE PROCESSING SPEED

ABSTRACT

Background: Meditation has a well-known reputation for bringing a good effect for
human mind. It has an even greater effect if practiced regularly on a daily basis and can affect
many domains in cognitive functions. This research focuses on specific cognitive function, the
cognitive processing speed (CPS). It generally refers to the speed of task completion with a reasonable
degree of accuracy.

Objective: Determining the relationship between meditation and CPS in healthy young
adult population

Method: This is a cross sectional study conducted among 102 participants aged 20-30.
Assessment for CPS using Trail Making Test A (TMT-A)

Result: There were 50 participants who meditate regularly from Pineleng Ministry
Training Institute and 52 participant as a control subject. Ten (20%) subjects who meditate
regularly and 9 (17,3%) control subject can finish the test within the time limit. There was no
significant relationship between meditation and CPS (p>0,05)

Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between meditation and CPS (p>0,05)
