Adding Custom Top Works to a CADWorx Specification FAQ

Question:

How are User Defined, Custom Top Works added to a CADWorx Specification?

Answer:

User Defined Top Works that have been modelled using AutoCAD Solids can be added to a
CADWorx Specification by directing the Custom Top Works Component Data Table to the
correct AutoCAD (*.dwg) file.
Firstly, once the Top Works has been modelled in AutoCAD the Union command will need
to be run on the 3D Solids to ensure the 3D Solids are grouped as one entity.

When the Top Works is inserted into the model the insertion point will be automatically
reference the Origin (0,0,0) coordinate in the AutoCAD 3D Solid Model. As a result of this
the AutoCAD 3D Solid will need to be moved so that the relevant insertion point is on the
Origin (0,0,0) Coordinate as seen below.
The AutoCAD Solid (*.dwg) file will then need to be moved or copied to a folder in the
Specification directory that has been set in the CADWorx Plant Setup Configuration
Settings as seen below. This allows Users to share their Custom Top Works with others
Users on the same Network if the SpecificationDirectory is configured to a Network
Location.

This can be saved in a User Defined folder or in the Default Custom_TopWorks folder but
this folder must be located the above SpecifcationDirectory location.
Once the AutoCAD (*.dwg) solid file has been placed in the correct location open the
Specification Editor as seen below.

In the Specification Editor click on the Beach Ball and click Open as seen below.
Browse to the SpecificationDirectory location and select the relevant CADWorx
Specification Catalogue and click on Open as seen below.

Next, expand the Date Table folder, right click on the Topworks category and click on
Add Data Table as seen below.
.
Next, assign a name to this Data Table and ensure that Custom is selected as the Type.
Select the relevant Size Table and click OK as seen below.

Once the Custom Top Works Data Table has been created, right click on an open space in
the Data Table and click on Add MAINSIZE as seen below.
Check the relevant Size/s from the list and click OK as seen below.

The SUBDIRECTORY entry needs to be specified. This refers to the name of the folder in
which the Top Works AutoCAD (*.dwg) file is located. Keep in mind that this can be a User
Defined Folder name however the name of the SUBDIRECTORY entry needs to match the
name of the folder exactly.
Next, the DWGNAME entry needs to be populated with the file name of the AutoCAD
(*.dwg) file. The file extension must be included

The rotations of the Top Works and the Weight can also be specified as seen below.

Next, click on the Beach Ball and click the Save command as seen below.
The changes in the CADWorx Specification Catalogue now need to be loaded into the
CADWorx Specification Project (*.prj) file. Click on the Beach Ball and then click on
Open as seen below.

Browse to the SpecificationDirectory location listed in the Configuration File and select
the relevant CADWorx Specification Project (*.prj) and click on Open as seen below.
When prompted to update the Project (*.prj) file from the base catalogues, click on Yes
as seen below. This will load the changed information from the Catalogue file to the Project
file.

Click on the Beach Ball and click the Save command as seen below.

Top Works can now be added to CADWorx valve components in the 3D Model by clicking
on the Top Works Add command on the CADWorx Plant I ribbon as seen below.
Next, select the relevant valve within the CADWorx 3D Model and press Enter. The
Custom Top Works will now be listed on as an option the list of available Top Works as
seen below.

Once selected, the User Defined Custom Top Works will be added onto the CADWorx Valve
component as seen below.
Alternatively, Custom Top Works can be assigned to valves within the CADWorx
Specification Project (*.prj) file as seen below.

This will automatically insert the selected Custom Top Works in the 3D Model as soon as
the relevant valve component is placed.
