Lafarge Tarmacs Topmix Permeable can play a fundamental role in the majority of Sustainable Urban

Drainage Systems (SuDS) designs, providing a practical, long-term answer to surface water flooding that
can be implemented quickly and cost effectively. A new, fast draining concrete pavement solution, it
rapidly directs excess water away from streets, parking surfaces, driveways and walkways. Unlike
conventional concrete, it has a high void content of between 20-35%. This allows surface water to drain
through into the sub-strata and dissipate naturally, reducing the risk of surface water flooding and
watercourse contamination.

Advanages of Topmix Permeable:

Effective management of water drainage Being able to control and actively manage the drainage of
rainwater from the developed landscape significantly reduces the risk of surface water flooding,
protecting both the natural and built environment.

Reduced pressure on existing systems New systems can be incorporated into the redevelopment of the
existing infrastructure, as well as installed in new housing and commercial and industrial developments,
easing the pressure on overstretched drainage systems, sewers and water treatment plants.

Improved water quality SuDS filter surface water as it is drained, improving water quality and reducing
the cost of water treatment. Permeable pavements are particularly effective in this area with pollutants
that infiltrate the surface being flushed into the underlying pavement layers where they are filtered and
trapped or degrade over time.

Reduced risk of water shortages Directing rainwater into natural aquifers keeps them recharged, reducing
the risk of water shortages during periods of low rainfall.

Better for people and the environment SuDS can be used to provide a constant supply of fresh water for
lakes and pools and to create new water-based amenities, benefiting both local communities and wildlife.

Increased property values Residential developments that incorporate a SuDS can attract higher values,
particularly in areas where there is a high risk of flooding.
Tarmac offers a service system that can accommodate three designs: Full infiltration, partial infiltration
and full attenuation.

1. Full Infiltration: refers to a system where all water goes through Topmix to flow into the soil
underneath. Its particularly useful in wet areas that dont need to collect the rainwater.
2. Partial Infiltration: Involves a semi-permeable barrier beneath Topmix that acts as a drainage
system into nearby sewers or water was- useful when the layer beneath Topmix cant pass the
water through on its own.
3. Full attenuation: uses a capture system to store all the water that flows through Topmix. This
option is most useful in areas with unclean water and high recycling rates since the captured water
can be reused later.

PEST Analysis:

Political:

The maximum import tariff rate is currently 35%. This applies to a few products that the government is
actively discouraging the importation of.

You are currently expected to pay:

16% sales tax

1% excise duty

Port charges, clearance charges, transportation and the additional duties charged for certain products
are extra on top of the customs tariff.

The political situation is unstable so the only factor that we need to keep in mind is obtaining building
permits in Pakistan.

Environmental:

A research by Utah State University[19] analyzed conditional instability, moisture flux, and circulation
features and the results support a persistent increase in conditional instability during the July pre-
monsoon phase, accompanied by increased frequency of heavy rainfall events. Monsoon rains were
forecast to continue into early August and were described as the worst in this area in the last 80 years.
These factors make the introduction of such a technology even more crucial.

Social:

The social factor is a bit trickier as the Pakistani customer does not switch to newer products as quickly.
There needs to be a great level of conditioning towards the product before it is considered. Hence, a
great deal needs to be focused on promotional activities of the product to create a hype.

Technological:

FBR succeeded in enhancing the level of revenue for the government, it can be considered gradually
switching over to concrete roads. Capital cost of concrete roads is higher, but maintenance cost is
almost zero. Further, as per a study, there is a 12% saving in fuel consumption on plying vehicles on
concrete roads. Substantial savings can be achieved by this switchover. Which is why, we expect great
compliance on part of the government.
