required work without causing damage to the piles being driven. Use
only one specific model of pile driving hammer for driving all piles.
The minimum rated energy of pile driver shall be 15,000-feet pounds.
Double-acting hammers shall be operated at full rated speed, pressure,
and stroke as specified by the manufacturer. Drop and vibratory
hammers shall not be used without the prior approval by COMPANY.

concentrically and in alignment with the pile's longitudinal axis
without inducing rocking movements in the pipe. Leads shall be
sufficient lengths to accommodate the combined length of pile and
hammer. The use of swinging or spud type leads is not permitted.
4.2.1.3 Caps, anvils or cushions shall be used as necessary with COMPANYs
approval to prevent excessive damage to pile. Caps shall be of cast

has been attained. Contact COMPANY immediately when driving is
interrupted or driving resistance has been attained before the pile
reaches design final penetration. The foundation design shall be re-
reviewed and additional piles shall be provided if necessary.
4.2.1.8 Piles not attaining the required penetration resistance (designed

penetration resistance without damaging the pile. COMPANY shall be

notified immediately if continued driving does not obtain the required
resistance.
4.2.1.9 Splice and drive pile that has not reached the required blow count or to
a depth as specified to develop the required driving resistance. The
required driving resistance achievement shall not be determined until
the pile has been driven at least an additional 12-inches. After such
piles are driven, cut them off normal to the pile axis at the elevation
shown, unless otherwise noted on the drawings.
4.2.1.10 Driven piles so as to prevent distortion or damage to previously driven
piles. Observe whether there is any uplift of previously driven piles.
Re-drive uplifted piles to at least the original final driving resistance
and tip elevation. Do not drive piles within 50-feet of previously
placed concrete works (foundation and other concrete structures) until
such concrete has cured a minimum of 7-days.
4.2.1.11 The center of the pile at the cutoff elevation shall not deviate more

minimize heaving.
4.2.1.16 Pile joint shall be welded in accordance with the design drawings.
Parts to be welded shall be cleaned from rust, mud, and all other
foreign matter. Abutting ends of pipe to be spliced shall be trimmed
true and square to the axis of the pile. Back-up ring or alignment clips
shall be used to ensure alignment for welding. Splices shall be full
penetration butt welds. A maximum of two joint splices per pile is
allowed.

COMPANY's Representative.
4.2.2.2 Heaved piles shall be redriven to their original capacity if heave
measurement is greater than -inch.

4.3. Field Quality Control

4.3.1. Driving Records
CONTRACTOR shall keep a complete and accurate record of each pile driven
and submit it to COMPANY. Indicate the pile location, size, length, ground
elevation, tip elevation, butt elevation, penetration, in blows per foot for the
entire length of penetration, driving time, hammer data including make, size and
pressure, pilot hole size and bottom elevation, and any unusual behavior or
circumstances during driving such as redriving, heaving, obstructions, and
interruptions that may occur.
4.3.2. Tolerance
Tolerance of piling work shall be as follows:
?? Deviation from the designated position : 3-inches (6-inches for test pile ).
?? Angle of rake : within 1/100.
Any piles driven out of the tolerances above shall be bought to COMPANYs
attention.
4.3.3. Load test
Pile load tests shall be performed in order to verify the capacity of the design pile
which were derived from soil investigation results and to establish pile driving
criteria and actual capacity relation (calendering). Test pile locations and type of
test to be performed shall be specified on the design drawings and be witnessed
by COMPANY. Load test shall be conducted in accordance with ASTM D1143
for compressive load tests, ASTM D3689 for tensile load tests, and D3966 for
lateral load tests. All materials for test piles shall be from the same manufacturers
as those for production piles. Load test report shall be in accordance with
applicable ASTM standards.
4.3.4. Unsatisfactory Piles
4.3.4.1 Piles will be rejected if underground obstructions make it impossible to
drive a pile to its proper depth, capacity, or tolerances. CONTRACTOR
shall provide procedure to correct problems due to obstructions.
4.3.4.2 Pile will be rejected because of material defects or damage, improper
driving (inadequate capacity), or out-of-tolerance on location or
alignment.
4.3.4.3 Defective pile shall be replaced by one of the following methods subject
to the written approval of COMPANY.
?? Using a new pile in place of the defective pile.
?? Splicing or reinforcing the defective pile.

?? Abandoning the defective pile in place and driving one or more new
adjacent piles, with a minimum distance of 3 times diameter of pile
from the abandoned pile, to ensure pile required capacity.
4.3.4.4 Holes resulting from removal of defective piles shall be filled with
compacted sand.
4.3.4.5 Cut off rejected piles that are left in the ground at the proper elevation
and fill with concrete.
