2. A shaft with ball bearing supports is being used to transmit power 4kW at 1600 rpm. The
solid shaft length and diameter are 1.2 m and 120 mm respectively. If a sprocket is fixed in
the middle of the shaft that causes transversal load of 500N, find:
(E=10GPa)

a) Find torsional stress and bending stresses, in the shaft.

b) Find maximum shear stress and allowable shear stress.
c) Find the critical speed.
