A
female
student
was
robbed
Tuesday
in
the
Alkek
Parking
Garage.
This
is
the
fourth
reported
robbery
of
this
type
on
campus
since
the
start
of
the
semester.
While
Estella
Garza
walked
to
her
dorm,
she
was
robbed
around
8
p.m.
A
tall
and
thin
man
rode
up
to
her
on
a
bicycle,
grabbed
her
backpack
off
her
shoulder
and
knocked
her
down.
She
told
the
police
the
man
was
wearing
a
baseball
cap
with
a
bandana
over
his
face,
shorts
and
a
UT
T- shirt.
I
saw
this
blur
of
motion
and
this
guy
on
a
bike
just
came
out
of
nowhere,
Garza
said.
I
didnt
even
have
time
to
react.
I
mean
I
should
have
fought
back
or
hit
him
or
something
but
it
all
happened
so
quickly.
One
minute
I
was
walking
to
my
dorm
and
the
next
minute
I
was
on
the
ground.
There
have
been
8
robberies
that
also
occurred
at
night
in
secluded
areas
on
campus.
Police
believe
the
same
man
is
responsible
for
all
four
robberies.
The
University
Police
Department
Police
Chief
Ralph
C.
Meyer
issued
a
statement
Wednesday.
Chief
Meyer,
is
forming
a
task
force
to
address
the
problem.
In
addition,
he
plans
to
have
additional
police
officers
patrolling
campus
in
areas
that
may
be
vulnerable
to
this
type
of
activity.
He
recommends
members
of
the
campus
community
to
use
caution
when
walking
at
night,
particularly
in
secluded
areas
of
campus.
It
is
best
to
travel
in
groups
and
to
remain
alert.
If
you
must
travel
alone,
remember
that
the
Bobcat
Bobbies
service
is
available
for
your
safety,
Meyer
said.
Hes
sure
they
will
catch
this
perpetrator.
If
anyone
has
information
about
these
robberies
or
any
other
campus
crimes
call
UPD
at
245-2890.
