Abstract

This standard specifies the requirements for Quality Inspectors qualification and certification. It
is intended to give information to the inspector for carreer progress. Inspectors qualifications
are classified by discipline. There are three levels of qualification for each discipline.

I. INSPECTORS LEVELS OF QUALIFICATION

There are three levels of Quality Inspector qualification. These levels can be associated to any
inspection discipline either related to manufacturing process or to testing type. (see graphic below)
The following chapter specifies minimum requirements of education and experience that candidate
shall fulfill in order to be eligible to qualification exam.

All qualification levels shall be attributed after the candidate succefully pass a
qualification exam. Further to qualification, the Quality Manager may certify the inspector
to be able to perform work in the company.

II. Education and experience requirements:

1.1. Associate Quality Inspector (AQI)

1-1 Education and experience

The Associate Quality Inspector:


Shall has a high studies technology diploma (high technician or equivalent).
Shall has a minimum of six months experience in the speciality.
Shall has a minimum 80h training in his specialty.

1-2 Abilities

The AQI shall be able to perform inspections in the speciality according to prepared quality plan
and procedures, under the active supervision of QI or SQI.

1.2. Quality Inspector (QI)

2-1 Education and experience

The Quality Inspector:


Shall has a high studies technology diploma (high technician or engineer).
Shall has a minimum of five years experience as a supervisior in the scope of activity
related to the concerned inspection speciality or has worked at least 2 years in function of
AQIs in the concerned speciality or has been qualified as a quality inspector in the speciality
by a recognized international body.
Shall has successfully completed 228h training in the specialty including 30h training in the
quality management and 18h in safety rules
Shall has succeded the qualification of internal quality auditor

2-2 Abilities

The Quality Inspector:


Shall be able to perform the AQIs duties
Shall be able to supervise and train AQIs.
Shall be able to perform inspections according to relevant procedures.
Shall be able to interpret standards and codes
Shall be able to prepare inspection procedure within the speciality
Shall be able to conduct spot quality audits
Shall ensure that the inspection activity is performed as appropriate and associated
records are prepared according to procedure.

1.3. Senior Quality Inspector (SQI)

3-1 Education and experience

The Senior Quality Inspector:


Shall has a high studies technology diploma (high technician or engineer).
Shall has a minimum of 15 years experience as a supervisior in the scope of activity related
to the concerned inspection speciality or has worked at least 10 years in function of QIs in
the concerned speciality or has been qualified as a senior quality inspector in the speciality
by a recognized international body.

Shall has successfully completed additional 180h training in the specialty.


Shall be qualified as a quality management lead auditor

3-2 Abilities

The Quality Inspector:


Shall be able to perform the QIs duties
Shall be able to train, supervise and qualify the QI and the AQI
Shall be able to perform inspections to applicable procedures and processes.
Shall be able to program and perform audits of suppliers and organizations providing
services.
Shall be able to perform work evaluation and analysis, propose solutions to quality
problems, and prepare analysis reports.
Shall be able to review and approve inspection procedures
Shall be able to lead an inspection staff and to indentify the need of resources
