JUDICIAL INDEPENDENCE A FOUNDATION

FOR COMBATTING INTERNATIONAL AND
TRANSNATIONAL CRIMES

7 AUGUST 2017 - ARUSHA, TANZANIA

Bringing together key stakeholders, renownedexperts and leading practitioners,
the WayamoFoundation,Africa Group for Justiceand Accountabilityand American
BarAssociationare convening apublic symposium in Arusha, Tanzania on 7 August, entitled
Judicial Independence - a Foundation forCombatting International andTransnational Crimes.

Within the framework of itsFighting Impunity in East Africa project, which is funded by
the German Foreign Ministry, Wayamo will be organising judgeretreats, workshops for
investigatorsandprosecutors in international criminaljustice and transnational organised
crime, and public outreachactivities. Wayamo will also be seeking to builddiplomatic and
political collaboration with keyregional and international stakeholders.

The Symposium topics will coverjudicial independence and ethics in the fight against
international andtransnational organised crime,explore therelationship between domestic,
regional and international courts incombatting serious crimes, andanalyse the role of the
judiciary inaddressinghuman trafficking and cyber crime.
